Advantages: natural, ?, ?
Disadvantages: expensive, bad quality products, bad quality packaging
I won a competition some time ago on dooyoo which entitled me to £50 worth of Martha Hill products. So here's the low down...
WHO THE HELL IS MARTHA HILL?
Well actually I don't know but here's what the company are about. Martha Hill sell beauty products made the way nature intended (via catalogue) and have been as establised company for over 30 years.
There is also David Hill for men.
SO WHAT ARE THE PRODUCTS MADE OF?
None of their products contain any animal or slaughter house derived ingredients.
Stearic acid and stearates are contained in their products. These are taken from coconut or palm oils. Martha Hill work closely with their suppliers and insist on written assurances that their products do not contain any animal by-products and have been tested on animals or had any solicit third party tests. They also ensure as much as possible that all herbal extracts are not GM.
However they do contain a low amount of preservative.
WHAT PRODUCTS DO THEY OFFER?
The product range is quite wide including cosmetics, deodorants, hair care, body care, foot care, eye care, sun care, hand and nail, lip balms, accessories and so on.
WHAT ABOUT THE PRICE RANGE?
There is no getting away from the fact that the price range is HIGH. Here are a few examples -
Honey Cleansing Lotion - 50ml (travel)- £4.20
Deep Mosturising Shampoo - 200ml - £5.20
Pure Deodorant - 50ml wind up stick - £4.20
I think that's a bit on the steep side.
WHAT IS THE PACKAGING LIKE?
The packaging is very plain, which is intended to reflect that the products are natural. It's plain white with dark browm writing.
WHAT ABOUT THE SHELF LIFE OF THE PRODUCTS?
The products do contain some preservative, but you are advised to use them within 6 months if possible. They will begin to deteriorate after this.

MY EXPERIENCE
And here's the bit where I get to tell you my experience.
I thought the quality was terribleand here's why - I bought an eyeshadow which cresed almost straight away, the mosturiser does not seem to work, just sits on your face.
The elderflower contour gel smells quite strongly of glue (and it looks like it too).
It does 'wake-up' your eyes a bit, but then again so does water...
The nail 4 step nail buffer I bought was complete rubbish and barely worked.
The only thing I did like was the 'Roll on Herbal Deodorant 60ml for £3.30' It smells really fresh, is easy to apply and not as overpriced as some of the other stuff in the catalogue.
If I had forked out £50 for what I got I would be very upset! The quality of the packaging was what bugged me the most. Some of the labels were on wonky and the tops! well the tops are an absolute nightmare, make sure you've got at least ten minutes to fiddle around trying to get it back on afterwards.
I'm also not keen on shopping from catalogues, which is the only way you can buy these poducts. How can you buy make up by looking at a picture of it?
Personally I don't really have a preference for using natural products but surely you should be able to expect better standards than this for your money. Natural or not!
