Advantages: Natural ingredients only, very gentle in use, not tested on animals

Disadvantages: Products are not exactly cheap.

My skin is sensitive with an alarming tendency to flakiness and blotches, so I am very careful about the products I use on it. I prefer natural products which are pure, soothing and gentle. I believe I have found just those products in the Martha Hill Skin Care ranges.

The Martha Hill approach to skincare is simple, and follows the tried and trusted routine of cleansing, toning and moisturising. All Martha Hill products are pure and gentle. The products contain some of Mother Nature’s finest ingredients: honey, beeswax, cucumber, avocado, witch hazel, wheatgerm, carrot oil, comfrey, apricot oil and camomile.

I love the Evening Primrose range for dry and maturing skin (what a lovely word!)

The cleansing lotion is rich and creamy, and cleanses thoroughly without drying the skin. As well as Evening Primrose Oil the lotion contains extract of cucumber and avocado.the cleansing lotion costs £8.40 for a 150ml bottle.

The Evening Primrose day cream is light and absorbs into the skin very quickly (I hate creams that “sit” on your skin.) I find that when I use this cream as a base for my make-up, I am able to apply my make-up more or less right away. The cream contains UVA/UVB sunscreens. The cost of the cream is £7.50 for a 50ml tub.

The Evening Primrose night cream is richer and so creamy that I really feel that I am actually feeding my skin. It promises to repair skin damage and to guard against the signs of aging, as well as minimise the appearance of fine lines. The night cream contains beeswax, comfrey, wheatgerm and carrot oil, as well as Evening Primrose Oil.It certainly does make my skin feel smoother and softer. This night cream costs around £9.00.

I have had no adverse reactions to any of these products.

The Martha Hill Herbal Range.

These products are recommended for normal to dry skin. Again, there is a cleansing milk, toner, day cream and nighttime moisturiser. These pr
oducts contain cucumber, witch hazel, wheatgerm and beeswax.

The Martha Hill Honey Range.

Recommended for dry and problem skins, this range contains honey, beeswax, apricot oil and camellia oil.

Martha Hill Skin Tonics.

Choose from Rosewater, which is mild and ideal for dry or sensitive skin, or Cucumber, which is slightly astringent.

Martha Hill Elderflower Eye Contour Gel is great for cooling and soothing the under eye area. I like to use it after a long day at work, or when I have been at the computer screen for a while.

Martha Hill Lip Balm contains castor oil and beeswax, as well as aloe vera and peppermint and is marvellous for soothing sore, chapped lips.

There is also a range of hand and foot lotions containing equally good things, like tea tree oil, sesame oil, lavender oil and castor oil. The body lotions contain vitamin rich oils such as lavender, peach, orange, apricot and sweet almond. They sound good enough to eat, and are certainly on my Christmas wish list.

There is now a selection of hand made soaps available from Martha Hill, all priced at a reasonable £2.50 for a 100g bar. Choose from Lavender, Rose Geranium, Orange and Lemon, Palmarosa and Grapefruit and Evening Primrose.

For the bath and shower there is a fantastic selection of goodies. Just a few are Seaweed Therapeutic Bath Oil, Lavender relaxing BathOil, Rose Harmonising Bath Oil and Citrus Refreshing Bath Oil.Each is priced at around £5.50 for a 200ml bottle and would make beautiful Christmas prezzies.

Martha Hill now offers a selection of cosmetics which includes foundation, concealers, face powders, cream blusher, lip colours and eye shadows. The foundations contain vitamins to care for your skin, and come in cream or liquid formats. The lip colours contain natural waxes to moisturise your lips. The eye shadows are creamy and glide on smoothly for a subtle effect. Prices are from between £4- £5.50. r>

I am delighted also that no Martha Hill products are tested on animals. When testing is necessary, the Company uses human volunteers. The Company displays the “Beauty Without Cruelty” Seal of Approval.

To avoid waste you can return your empty containers to Martha Hill for recycling and the Company will provide you with postage paid bags for this purpose.

Martha Hill products are available by mail order or online, and guess what? There are no extra charges for post and packing, if you use the Second Class Royal Mail service. Alternately, you may pay £1.00 if you want your order sent First Class. Martha Hill aims to despatch your order within 24 hours of receipt.
