Advantages: So relaxing, releases tense and painful muscles.

Disadvantages: cost

I had my first massage on a visit to a Spa which I had won in a competition.....the massage was part of the prize..
The win came at a time in my life when I was under a huge amount of stress and not sleeping or relaxing well at all, so it seemed a great opportunity to get away from it all for a weekend.
Before the weekend I had been unable to relax and sleep, and yet the minute I had had the massage, all I wanted to do was curl up and drop off.
I think the times in my life I have felt most relaxed have been after a good massage.
Many of us when we are stressed, carry the tension in our backs and shoulders. If this is released through massaging the tense muscles, not only your body is more relaxed, but it seems to carry over into affecting you mentally and emotionally too.
Stress is a vicious circle....you're stressed - you tense up your muscles - your body is tense - you are unable to relax properly - you get more stressed.......
Massage breaks that vicious circle in a healthy way, it may also help prevent more serious stress related back problems.
If you carry stress in your back/shoulders/neck as many of us do, I recommend trying to book in a regular massage....
As for me, well no I didn't, and now I'm suffering long term back problems and paying for physio to do what I think a good massage on a regular basis might have helped prevent!
Cost is a problem, but if you have a partner, why not both book onto a local college massage course? Then you can treat eachother...
