Advantages: None.

Disadvantages: People can be hurtful., Poor vision.

My son who is six has a squint he has had it since he was born at first we thought it would go away but it did eventally he was referred to an eye clinic who diagnosed he had a squint but offered no treatment except for a further appointment we went regular but still nothing was done meanwhile his squint was getting worse.

It was highley visable when he looked at me his right eye looked the other way people said nasty things to him an adult called him bog eyed its not his fault he was prescribed eyepatches to wear on his good eye which in turn would make his lazy eye work or so we thought . The patches worked for a while but then stopped working I was told he would need an operation to correct his eye sight but then he started to lose his vision so the operation was cancelled until his sight was sorted out.

We were finally transferred to our local hospital who put drops in to his eyes to make them dialate not pleasent they prescribed eye drops which were to be put in every night I tried putting the drops in but he screamed so I phoned the hospital who said to stop giving him the drops we had another appointment and were prescribed more patches and they informed me his sight was starting to get worse so he has an appointment to see an optician next week.

A squint is not an abnormality as some people think my son has to wear patches from eight in the mornung till six in the evening at first he hated it but now has adjusted to it hes at full time school and some other kids wear eye patches so he has nobody picking on him please if you see a child with a squint dont point and stare or say nasty things think of how the other person feels is nobodys fault its part of life.

UPDATE.

I took my son back to the hospital they say they want to correct his vision as he has longsighted and shortsighted ness in his eye we have to go back in a month and he also has to wear stronger glasses I cant help thinking had they paid attention in
the first place this would not be happening they only have two more years to sort his vision out or his sight will be like that all his life on friday he had his first comment by a child at school and he started to get angry its not his fault it hurts to see him get upset why cant people keep there opinions to themselves and parents stop teaching there children because something is not commen its not a disease all children are different.

We noticed a squint in our 7 month old son and trying to get the HV to take any notice was a nightmare as my usual one was off. When we went to the 8 month check, my own HV was there and listened to me and got the GP to look and we got referred to the eye hospital. We went to the first appointment and it was a nightmare which ended up with him being diagnosed with Long Sightedness. He was given glasses, but when we went for the follow up it turned out that he was long sighted with rugby ball eyes. His squint is often more apparent when he is tired but it does worry me that he is 18 months and he won't wear his specs and that it may never be sorted but his dad had the same problem so it's not so much of a problem, but I have noticed some children have severe squints and that never seem to get treatment. I truly hope your son's squint gets better soon. I would ask for a second opinion if you are still worried. I'm sorry to hear that your son has had to endure some horrible comments of people who are supposed to be mature responsible adults. We're lucky to have had a lot of support! Take care Love Louise

good luck with his future treatment . I have some experience of a squint when i was involved in a car accident 25 yrs ago a neve in my eye was broken meaning my eyes were not level, looking like a squint . I have had surgery on them since which has made them a bit better but not completly so I have double vision its ok most of the time when tired its worse, best wishes for your son

Good luck with his future treatment. It is awful that people are so cruel.
