Disadvantages: blisters and generaly feeling unwell

My first experience with chicken pox was just over 6 years ago. Having escaped catching it as a child when all my friends had it i managed to catch it wholst pregnant with my first child, from our next door neighbours child.

To begin with i didnt realise it was chicken pox as the first two blisters appeared on the back of my hand shortly after cooking bacon for tea so i just assumed they were blisters from the frying pan where the bacon had spat at me. I woke up the next morning absolutley covered in blisters, i was a little alarmed by this as i had heard of child hood illnesses being realy dangerous wholst pregnant so phoned my midwife streight away who told me to contact my doctor so i did, after he had made several phone calls to other doctors and the hospital he informed me it is only dangerous in the first 8 weeks and last 4 weeks of pregnancy and with me already being 5 months pregnant by then the baby wasnt in any danger but warned me that as an adult it could easily develop into a chest infection so to stay at home and keep warm.

The blisters itched quite a lot before they began to dry up but i used calamine lotion and cream for this and they soon started to dry up nicely after about 4 days, what i hadnt banked on was getting a realy bad fever and feeling so ill with it, i just thought it was blisters and that was all untill then.

It took about 3 weeks in all for the blisters to clear up completely but thankfully there was minimal scaring from these although it wasnt a pleasant experience at the time.

Chicken pox has been going around my daughters school for the last few months now in my eldest daughters class but she seemed to be avoiding it and i had been told that she may never catch it due to me being pregnant with her when i had it and passing the immunity on to her but unfortunately we were not that lucky, on the 15th of april which also happens to be her birthday she got up covered in blisters so spent the last few weeks off school covered in cream and they are drying up nicely, she didnt seem to get the fever i did with mine but went off her food but this wasnt helped by the fact she had blisters in her mouth, This morning her younger sister awoke with a couple of blisters and by this evening she is covered, i was amazed at how fast they appear, i was literaly creaming her every hour today as more and more appeared, hopefully she wont be too ill with hers and i wont be getting them again although i dont know if you can catch them twice?

Summary: not a nice illness
