Wish I did not have a skin allergy.
I do not feel ill, or really look ill, but my skin itches like crazy.
So why do I get odd looks.
Skin allergies can come as a dermatitis, which is itchy and scaley, with rashed spots filled with fluid.
In my case it will itch so bad that I bleed and it then spreads.
I was given patch test all 27 of them, and phew I reacted, but was a surprize that I reacted so badily.
I am allergic to Nickel, which is in cheap jewellery: anything under 22 carat gold.
Food: Chocolate, nuts, some veg, pulses, wholemeal, low fat spreads, tea, curry powder, spices, herb etc etc.
Cobalt is in building products such as plaster and cement, it is also in colourings for paint and in the process of leather, etc etc.
Thiuram is in all rubber and latex products ( No laughing).
Neomycin is in medicines and creams that could help my skin, but I cannot have them as i am allergic.
So as you can see it is a crazy and does change your life. I have had to change glasses because of the frames, shoes because of leather and also some of my clothing. I am under a dietician as I had to change my diet. Skin allergies are life changing and not enough is known. I now have to used striod creams and tablets to keep it under control, which have there own side affects.
I found out at Christmas I am allergic to the bang tapes in crackers and party poppers, but only when my skin came up read and itchy. So you see you never know what can set you off.
I do find it disturbing though that manufactures are not obiliged to give you information on the contents of products. I rang up companies to find out what was in ie cracker tapes, and was told " sorry we cannot give you that information". Well I am sorry but I need to know.
