To be quite honest, cancer had never crossed my mind as I had already realised that I had piles, but it was a bit of a shock to hear that. A week or so before my appointment at the hospital, I received a package. Oooh, a pressie for me, I thought eagerly opening it. No such luck, it was an enema. Was this a joke, I thought, ... more

... but no, it was from the hospital along with a letter. The letter said that I was going to have a procedure called a Sigmoidoscopy and that I had to administer the enema to myself an hour before I went for my appointment. Worse still, I was only allowed to...more

I thought I'd write about a subject near to my heart or should I say close to my bottom. Haemorrhoids are also known as Piles and from now on I'm going to refer to them as piles as it's shorter and easier to spell. Piles are enlarged blood vessels in or around the anus. There is often pain, itching, bleeding and a feeling of heaviness down there also. They are incredibly common, its estimated that over 50% of the population will suffer with piles at some time in their lives. They can be caused by a low fibre diet, pregnancy, being overweight or by heavy lifting. Its advisable to go to the doctors, even if you suspect piles, if you notice any of the following ...  Read the complete review

I was a bit worried about them because sometimes they would bleed a bit and they were very itchy so I went to see my doctor. I thought that I would be embarrassed to show him my bum but he didn't even look at it because he said right away that from my symptoms he was sure I had piles. He gave me cream which was called preparation h and told me to rub it on them every day and whenever they got itchy. When I told my friends they were laughing at me and calling my problem by all sorts of silly names like The Duke's which meant the Duke of ...  Read the complete review

Haemorroids. Well, we don’t talk about them do we? We don’t really talk our ailments ever do we? That’s not macho, that’s not the male way. We can joke about it, laugh at people having to sit on cushions, watch stand ups talk about it. Normally though very little is actually said about the condition itself. But I’m going to rivet you with a read regarding the raging throb that comes with an oft’ misunderstood illness. I first encountered piles at the age of about 19. As far as I can tell this is a quite a young age to get this particular problem, no one I know actually admits to suffering from them, and to date I’ve only ...  Read the complete review

They may bleed, and swell and medical attention should be sought. At least 40% of people suffer from piles at some time in their lives.
