Advantages: Definately none.

Disadvantages: Blocked or runny nose, tiredness, itchy eyes.

Well for some people its that time of year again, the start of the dreaded hayfever.
But for lots of us its not just confined to spring and summer months but all year round.

My hayfever symptoms began ten years ago, when I returned to England from Germany.
I had to live with my parents who lived in the countryside.

The first symptoms to show were the blocked nasal passages, they were so swollen that I had to breathe through my mouth,as it was impossible through my nose.
This became uncomfortable especially at nightime,as I would frequently wake up with a very dry mouth.

I decided to buy a nasal decongestant, vicks sinex to help reduce the swelling,to enable me to breathe through it.little did I know that as time went on I was actually making things worse by continually using this product.(see my opinion on vicks).
Then there was the intense itching and watering of the eyes. You just have to rub them but of course that makes it worse.

After about a year of suffering the above symptoms I eventually made an appointment to see my GP and he told me it was classic symptoms of hayfever.

He prescribed Opticrom Eye Drops which had to be applied up to four times a day.The relief was amazing, the coolness of these drops hitting your eyes was great and they did stop the itchy feeling.

For my nasal problems I had to use Syntaris nasal spray, this had to be sprayed up into each nostril three times daily. But I was warned that it could take up to two weeks for this to take full effect. It was awful trying to keep on using this until they did have some effect.More than once I was tempted to have a sneaky squirt of Vicks, especially at night.Eventually this spray did work wonders, but you do need to use it as directed everyday to get the full effects, whether your nose is blocked or not.

I continued using this nose spray for five years until one day I realised I didnt need it anymore.
Nowadays I just sneeze inste
ad,up to thirty times one after the other. But I much prefer the bouts of sneezing to the constantly blocked nose if I had to make a choice.

I was also prescribed Triludan Antihistomine tablets, but personally I dont believe they made any difference to my symptoms,so I stopped taking them after six months.Thats not to say that they wouldnt work for other people though.

As I mentioned above Hayfever for some can be an all year round thing.
If it rains in the Winter I sneeze big time, apparently it is the mushroom spores coming down in the rain that cause the irritation to the nasal passages,I read that in a magazine a few years ago.
Hayfever suffers also experience fatigue, after all it takes a lot out of you all that sneezing.
Then theres the runny nose side of hayfever, endless tissues and sore dry skin under your nose caused by the continual wiping.
All in all its not a nice thing to experience, especially if you are an all year round sufferer.

I get hayfever too. Triludan has been replaced by Clarityn.

Never had this problem, but know people who have. I read your profile. All the best for the future. Regards - Peter

Triludin is no longer available because of some of the potential side effects. It was fine for me (as far as I know) and the replacement tablets can be a bit hit and miss.

I've yet to find anything strong enough to battle all the symptoms off in the height off summer though. The only one that came close was working abroad! No reaction at all! But not an easy option to suggest to all sufferers that is it?!
