I happen to be experiencing a severe bout of tonsillitis as I write and it is such an unpleasant experience.

It must have started the weekend before last I was stressed out with the relationship I was having and then my boyfriend came all the way to visit me at university on the Friday just to break up with me. I was already run down from the previous weekend as I had to get 2 rabies vaccinations, typhoid, polio and various other boosters for my field trip to Goa India in April.

During that weekend I also had to help an e tablet victim back from a night club as one of my best friends at university is a resident assistant on the Saturday night, and sit up with her so she didn't choke in her sleep. I then had to spend a good seven hours in the A and E because the same friend's boyfriend started puking up blood and screaming in pain and I didn't feel right to leave her on her own and go home, so I missed probably 2 nights sleep and a good few hot meals. All of this combined probably led to the illness developing.

My throat started feeling a little swollen and funny the Sunday before last but I thought nothing of it, it was however on the Thursday night when I realised I was overdosing myself with extra strength painkillers that my flatmates thought something was wrong with me and confiscated the tablets. That night was a nightmare I had never been in such pain; I couldn't even swallow my own saliva. I looked at my throat in the mirror and both my tonsils were extremely swollen and white with pus and mucus, the right side being particularly bad. From the outside of my neck it felt and still feels like I have two large gobstoppers or golf balls wedged halfway down my throat. I ended wedging tissues in my mouth to stop me swallowing it was so painful.

To make things worse it was snowing and my mum had to drive all the way up to the university and back to our local health centre as the doctor on call wasn't around. My breath also stank really badly due to the infection and bacteria.

Was quite funny when I finally got into the GPs office as she looked absolutely horrified at the sight of my throat had to have a little grin at that one anyway. She supplied me with a 10 days' worth of antibiotics and maybe a year's supply of dissolvable paracetamol and voltoral which taste revolting by the way. I would much rather have the tablet form as I can now swallow properly and am halfway through the antibiotics.

This happened at a pretty bad time also as the second semester of university is really busy with tonnes of deadlines and group projects and I feel by getting sick I am letting a lot of people down. I do feel a whole lot better but I am far from well and my mum won't let me go back to university until I finish my antibiotics. It is so frustrating as my modules this year score on participation and practical's more than anything so there isn't even that much reading to do. I suppose there isn't that much I can do as one minute I am really energetic and the next I have to lie down and fall asleep. So bored already and I keep feeling that I am falling further and further behind.
Looked at my throat again today the left has greatly decreased in size is still a bit white but isn't visible or felt on the outside of my throat, the right is about half the size it was but is still considered really bad by my mum so I am not allowed to go outside because it's so cold and it's snowing and I think I am starting to get cabin fever.

Summary: I think I am getting cabin fever 0.0

Sounds like you had the quincy - Tonsils inflamed with pus inside. I had that years ago and it was the worse illness I've ever had.
