His best friend is either his school helper, Siobhan or his pet rat, Toby; of whom he seems very close to! Often, because of their lack of sensitivity in what they say and how they say it, Autistic people frequently aren't offered much sympathy because the Autistic person may have unintentionally been rude, and ... more

I have watched both the film Rainman and have read the book - The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time and I would like to pass onto you what I have learnt about Autism while analysing these two sources and investigating myself! My eight year old son suffers with Asperger's Syndrome (AS). His name is Joe-Joe Banana! He is a fantastic little boy who was only formally diagnosed about a year ago (normal british system!). He attends mainstream school where is progresses well. He has extra help in the class for social skills and concentration (he cannot get a statement (whereby he would receive extra help funded by the government) as his test results are above average). It makes me mad that the authorities only really class a child as worthy of a statement when they are "behind" - what about those that are not behind but need help in other areas such as in the ...  Read the complete review
