~~~~~~~~~~ INTRODUCTION ~~~~~~~~~~ Just over five years ago, I developed diabetes. I was 33, newly married, sedentary, overweight and in a stressful job, but the diagnosis was nevertheless, totally unexpected. According to Diabetes UK, there are currently over 2.5 million people with diabetes in the UK and there are more than half a million people with diabetes who have the condition and don't know it. This is a frank, personal account of my experience in dealing with the disease. Along the way, I think I have managed to touch on most of the main issues relevant to diabetes, but this is by no means an exhaustive and comprehensive review ... Read the complete review
I have type 2 diabetes, personally I don't care if people say I am diabetic, 'living with' diabetes or any of those other things, though some people do; they prefer not to be called diabetic and become defined by their condition. The main reason that I am writing this is just as a bit of knowledge for folks, and because another Dooyoo member had seen this review when I originally penned ity for another well known review site and suggested I post it here. So if you don't want to know or are not really interested, thats okay, stop reading now. Type 2 used to be called 'mature onset' diabetes, it is sometimes called non-insulin dependent diabetes and ... Read the complete review
I was diagnosed with Type II diabetes in April 2006. It was a real shock to be told I was diabetic not least because I had only gone in for a routine medical check-up including ECG, blood pressure monitoring and blood tests for cholesterol, diabetes, liver, kidney and something else which I don't recall right now. I'd been overweight for a good 15 years, not what would be classed as clinically obese but certainly overweight with the need to lose 15 kilos or so. I am 5 feet 8 inches and people have always said I carried my weight rather well by wearing flattering colours or long line blouses and drawing attention away from my waist area. What is the point of me mentioning ... Read the complete review
I have been wanting to write about being diabetic for a while now but only just got round to it so here goes.. Well I am a 'fake' diabetic as I don't have type 1 or type 2..let's start from the beginning, are we sitting comfortably? Then we will begin. Going back to about 8 or 9 years ago I was constantly tired, had dry sore throats and generally felt a bit under the weather nearly all the time. I had various blood tests which showed nothing up and it was decided it was because I had suffered from glandular fever a few years before and it was still in my system that was to blame. I wasn't happy with this so went back to see a different doctor who again ... Read the complete review
I have just been diagnosed as diabetic. It came as a bit of a shock I must admit. It was purely by chance that it was discovered. I'd originally gone for a cholesterol test as I hadn't had one done for around five years, and suggested that as they had my blood they might as well do a diabetes check, as I had never had one done, not for a moment thinking it would come back positive. I don't really fit the profile of someone who is susceptible to the disease. I have no relations with it; I'm not overweight; I eat a healthy, balanced diet; I exercise regularly; I have never smoked; I don't drink excessively; I don't add much sugar to anything, such as tea or ...
