Oppositional Defiant Disorder is the name give to children who display a set of symptoms that largely consist of negative, hostile, and defiant behavior. Although it can be a stand along disorder it is also often found as a co-morbid condition, along with Attention deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.

A child with ODD comes across as severely anti-social; the proverbial 'bad seed'. You will find the child with ODD loses temper with people very easily, argues with adults and is very oppositional at all times, actively defies or refuses to comply with rules and instructions laid down by adults and society as a whole.

He will also often deliberately annoy people, blame others for his own misbehavior or mistakes. He will appear extremely 'touchy' or sensitive to apparent critisism, be angry and resentful or even spiteful or vindictive.

Parents of children like this have a very hard time maintaining discipline and often find themselves in a depressed state. The behaviours exhibited by the child often have very negative knock on effects for all the family.

All these modern labels for different disorders makes me wonder what these problems used to be called - were they just put down as being "naughty" or "spoilt" children? Thank goodness we are now enlightened.

Sorry to only rate SU- allow me to explain! What you wrote was useful and well written, but didnt tell me any more than anyone who has heard of ODD would already know- you know, personal experiences, opinions and the like. Please let me know if you expand on this as I would like to come back and rate higher.
