Advantages: purple packaging, purple body wash (You see a pattern here?), Good company

Disadvantages: STINKS!, Erm, the smell isn't great..., Oh just read the opinion ;-)

Hurray! The long wait is over, the kids are back at school! I finally get some time to myself and the chance to get things done without interruption or interference.

You see, these past few months have been rather hectic to say the least. I took my kids out of school in May and home-schooled them until the end of term. Now “my kids” doesn’t sound too bad if you say it quickly, but I have four and two of those have behavioural difficulties.

We moved house in June, I got married in July. I literally haven’t had a day in the new house without the kids. It’s not that we haven’t unpacked, because we have. It’s just those things that always need sorting out – you know, old clothes (some a size 12!!), boxes of paper, old puzzles which I am determined will have all their pieces somewhere – you know the type of thing!

So, kids off to school, quick cup of tea round Allie’s then back home for Day One of THE BIG SORT OUT!

Four hours later, I have worked my backside off, but you can’t really see much difference. However, I feel dirty, grimy, dusty and sweaty.

Admittedly, I’ve been reading and rating Ciao opinions too, but I have also been humping things (Now Now!), shifting big boxes, carrying bin bags stuffed full of clothes for the charity shop and standing on tiptoe on my swivelling chair to put my beanies on the shelves. (The last time I did that, I fell through the chair and still have a scarred knee to prove it – but thankfully, this chair is stronger!)

So, I’ve got about an hour to go before it’s time to trudge back up to school to pick up three of my little ‘uns (the big ‘un is now at High School and doesn’t need me anymore!). I need a shower! I don’t like feeling pongy and horrible and I’ve got a new sachet from Original Source to try out (not Lush, but my second favourite!), so off we goR
30;

Oh and it’s a purple sachet too, so that’s a bonus ;-)

<Fast forward a few minutes>

So what did I think to it? Well, over the past couple of months, I have learnt how wonderful it is to have a shower. Being a lifetime fan of a long one horizontal, I have now become a fan of the quickie standing up! I can even do LUXURIOUS in the shower now, oh yes. Once I’ve used all my Lush and Original Source products, I can stay in there a good twenty minutes and come out feeling positively pampered.

But this one was definitely a five-minute quickie. Why? Because it smelt ghastly! I don’t know what the word ‘lavender’ conjures up with you, but if you inhale this stuff, this is the picture that flickers to the forefront of my mind – old women with those drawer liners and little cotton bags with drawstrings that stink! Do you know what I mean? They probably had pot pourri in or something, but they smell like cat’s pee on dead flowers. Not nice.

I really cannot see this product appealing to anyone under sixty. This is probably quite bizarre. I mean, I see Original Source as a young, trendy, modern line of products. The colours are eye-catching, the font is large and bold, it calls out to the modern man or woman. But no, the Tea Tree and Lavender Moisturising Body Wash doesn’t call out to anyone, it just whispers to itself and mentions the War a lot. And no one is listening.

I love Original Source, I really do. Only last weekend, I bought full-size bottles of the lemon shower gel, the orange shower gel, the lemon deodorant spray and the orange conditioner. I adore the bright designs and the gorgeous fruity smells. So who on earth did the market research and decided a body wash that stinks of rancid squashed petals would appeal to me? Go away, it doesn’t! I couldn’t even use the entire 25ml sachet!

<Sending calming vibes around my body>

Bu
t there must be something good about this, right? Well, it’s Original Source and all the products of theirs that I have used have been of a very high quality. This was no exception. It is a good consistency – not too thick or too runny – and a pretty light purple colour. It lathered well and easily using a body puff. I do feel clean – but there’s that Eau de Nursing Home too.

It is a moisturising body wash. I have dry skin and yes, it feels nice and soft. You know about the vegetarian bit, no doubt, that they don’t test on animals and they use essential oils. Just remember never to buy anything containing lavender oil in the future. This even smells worse than that putrid pink stuff you get in glass bottles for little girls too young to wear real perfume, but want something pink with the Barbie logo on it. Yes, that stuff you “accidentally” flushed down the toilet – oh, you are sorry – don’t worry, Mummy will buy you something a bit better…

The website raves about this product – but then it would do, wouldn’t it? Its income depends on these things selling. However, on the plus side, they do make moisturising body washes in other varieties including the tea tree and mint (Argghh, no, take the strong smell away!!), almond and orange (can’t stand almonds) and the wonderfully tempting honey and lemon.

These are available in the tester sachets or 300ml and 400ml bottles. They are sort of oval shaped, quite pretty bottles. The website quotes £3.75 for a bottle of the tea tree and lavender. Would I buy it? NO WAY! Not even if it was free. Oh it was – well, a sachet anyway.

Marks out of 10? Well, the product is a high quality and the company is generally very good. The packaging is purple, so that’s good too. But let’s face it, if it smells like Great-Grandma’s incontinence pads, who’s going to buy it? Not me. 2 out o
f 10 – and one of those points was for being purple.
