Advantages: saves money and a visit to the doctors
Disadvantages: some pharmacist will not do it
Do you go to the doctors if you have a cough? If you do and you get a prescription for a cough medicine you really should think again. Many people are paying way over the retail price for medicines by using prescriptions, it's the same with pain-killers, most can be bought over the counter, yet people use prescriptions to get them. I discovered that by talking to your pharmacist and explaining your symptoms will not only save you money but also save you a trip to the doctors. I had a really dry, itchy cough, it was getting on my nerves and was irritable, I hate waiting about in doctors surgeries so decided to go to the chemist. I use the same chemist all the time, this way they get to know all about your medications. After telling him the problem rather than recommending a brand name product, he went and made me a bottle of medicine to suit me. It came in a normal medicine bottle and the cost was £0.75p. A brand name would have cost me £2-£3, and a prescription over £5. The medicine he made worked really well and I always buy it from him now. So if you have a cough, go and see your pharmacist first, one word of advice, if a sales assistant approaches you, ask them if you can have a word with the pharmacist, then ask the pharmacist if he/she will make you something up. If you don't ask, you won't get.

- 17/09/00 Nice review - i hope people pay attention as doctors need to spend their time treating 'serious' cases as opposed to minor ailments like a cough or a common cold. |
