Advantages: Smells lovely, Long lasting, Fairly cheap
Disadvantages: Being discontinued
After smelling a Clinique fragrance on my better half a few weeks ago I went in search of my long lost bottle of Clinique Chemistry and was happy to find it (although nearly empty) along with a few other older bottles. I?ve had this bottle of Chemistry for well over 5 years and haven?t used it since in I moved into my new house. Until the weekend it was consigned to the dark depths of my airing cupboard in the bathroom along with the rest of the dodgy aftershaves I owned in my early 20?s. I initially bought this from Rackhams for £17.49 for a 75ml bottle, but at the time I did get a healthy discount from my friend on the Clinique counter. You can expect to pay around £25 for a bottle and it is widely available from Boots, Bodycare and most online fragrance retailers. The bottle comes in a plain white box with a very minimalist design, and on taking the rounded bottle out the first thing that strikes you is how plain it looks. There are no thrills here, it being a plain glass bottle with a silver lid. The actual fragrance being dispensed by an atomiser. It looks so sterile! Unlike most fragrances, Chemistry does come with notes included as well as a small packet of the aftershave balm. Chemistry is a fragrance according to Clinique that is designed for daily wear and contains Jamaican ginger, citrus and amber. Jamaican ginger isn?t the first ingredient I would ever think of being in an aftershave so this raised an eyebrow! I stopped using Chemistry purely because I fancied a change. I had got sick of wearing the same thing day in day out, however on trying this again I was pleasantly surprised. It was nothing like how I had imagined it. Maybe that is because up until recently I have never really paid attention to things like this, however now I analyse every aspect of a fragrance. My impressions now of Chemistry are of a very light, fresh and invigorating fragrance. On application the first thing that struck me wa
s its light nature. The atomiser releases a very fine spray and the citrus aroma is the first thing that is evident. A combination of lemon and orange mixed with subtle spices (the ginger). As soon as it is applied it seems to disappear as it immediately blends with skin. Within minutes the actual smell is unnoticeable due to its light nature so I applied it again. Hmmmm, bad idea! I might not have been able to notice it at home but evidently it is simply because it has blended with my skin a bit too well. Once I had applied Chemistry I felt confident about myself. The fact that others have noticed it and asked what I was wearing made me feel very good about my general appearance. One application of three or four sprays will leave you covered in a beautiful fragrance that lasts for well over 8 hours at a time. Although Clinique say it?s for everyday wear I disagree. It is a bit too light for casual outings and special occasions, but it certainly has been added to my list of bottles to replenish as it is ideal for a night out or for wear around the office. This is something I would wear when I wanted a change from Ralph Lauren Blue, Acqua de Gio or Bvlgari but it would never replace them as a true favourite. It?s versatile, but not the best fragrance on the market. As I have said, I haven?t worn this in years until today but I will continue to do so. It lasts for a reasonable amount of time once applied, smells wonderful and doesn?t go off with age so it can be left on a shelf for years without it going manky and leaving you smelling like a rotten cabbage. All things being said it may not be the best ever fragrance on the market but it gives higher priced aftershaves and fragrances a good run for their money and for £25 a bottle, you can?t grumble. RECOMMENDED This fragrance is in the process of being phased out so I'd recommend you get your hands on a bottle quickly. Thanks for taking the t
ime to read and rate.
