Advantages: spot free, really cleanses

Disadvantages: expensive

I initially tried this based on recommendation by my boss who used to work in boots on the channel counter. My skin started to deteriorate about two years ago and all I used to wash with was soap, so I went to boots for them to determine my skin type and initially I was advised to use clarifying lotion 2, lets just say I hit the roof, it really really stung when I put it on. So I dropped back into boots and explained, they were great, they said that I should try lotion number 3 as it doesn?t contain a ingredient that 1 and 2 do (which I believe is menthol) so may be better for my skin. I did and it was brilliant, no stinging just really clean skin

A bit about clinique
---------------------------
Clinique was first launched in 1968 with skin care and makeup products that are all Allergy Tested & 100% Fragrance Free. They claim to be one of the world's leading manufacturers and marketers of prestige skin care, makeup hair and fragrance products. Clinique's skin care products are marketed as part of the 3-Step System: Cleanse, Exfoliate, and Moisturise.

The product
-------------------------
The clarifying lotion comes in plastic bottles with a screw top lid, and depending on which one you buy most are coloured pink.

How to use
-----------------
You really do not need a lot of this product to work its magic, you should follow the 3-step routine which is wash with their soap exfoliate with the clarifying lotion and then moisturise with one of their moisturisers. I don?t follow it to a tee but always always use the clarifying lotion. To use apply a little onto a cotton wool pad or ball and I tip the bottle on then tip it off again really quickly, then you sweep it over your face and neck and that really is all you do, sweep! You will be so surprised how much crap comes off your face and onto the cotton wool even after washing first, I never feel clean unless I?ve used this.

Does it work?
------------
--------
100%, since using this my skin has fewer breakouts and always feels thoroughly cleansed afterwards. if I haven?t got much time ie; I?ve been out on the lash then this is the only skincare I do but I always make sure I use it as all the grime and make-up is removed so easily. Occasionally my skin feels slightly dry afterwards but it never feels greasy anymore. I cannot think of a product that could replace this part of my skincare routine.

What each lotion is for
-----------------------------
There are 5 types of clarifying lotions on offer and the best thing to do is to speak to the clinique counter rep and allow them to determine your skin type for you, but in brief these are the varieties on offer.

Clarifying Lotion Mild - This is mainly aimed at very dry and delicate skin

Clarifying Lotion 1 - Again aimed at sensitive dry skin and contains very low levels of alcohol.

Clarifying Lotion 2 - This is for normal to oily skins and contains menthol

Clarifying Lotion 3 - This is for oily skin and helps control oily skin problems such as blackheads and whiteheads.

Clarifying Lotion 4 is aimed at really oily skin.

The cost
----------------
200ml is 13.50GBP and 400ml is 21.00GBP If you were to get started using the 3-step routine it would set you back around 36.00GBP for the soap, the clarifying lotion and the basic moisturiser. However if you go to a clinique counter they normally have trial sizes which some will give you for free and others will charge. I know it does sound expensive but I have bought all three in the past and they do last ages, my clarifying lotion normally lasts around 6months and that twice daily use, cause you only need a tiny bit

All clinique products are 100% allergy tested however I have to admit I don?t know if they are tested on animals though, so if this does bother you I suggest you find out before you but.

Where to buy?
-----
--------------------
Available at most larger boots stores where they have a clinique counter, and most big department stores like john Lewis, debenhams and allders. Or you can buy online at www.boots.com or www.clinique.co.uk.

If you were to buy anything from the clinique range I would definitely recommend trying this first. Thanks for reading, I look forward to your comments.
