Advantages: Can make you look more attractive
Disadvantages: Orange Skin, Too Fake Looking, Patchy
I must have tried every single Fake Tan there is over the last 6 or 7 years and have only really found one that is any good "St Tropez".
I'm not mega white I do have a little bit of a Spanish or Italian look people have always said but always wanted a really good tan to make me feel that i am looking my best.
****MY EXPRIENCES****
Now when I was 18 for about a year I used sun beds frequently like 3 -4 days a week for 15 minutes at a time, it was expensive £3 for 3 minutes from what I can remember but I did get a really nice tan but soon stopped when I saw what the sun beds were doing to my skin, making me get wrinkles in-between my chest although I haven't used sun beds for a very long time, (im 28 now) I must say im very temped to go back on them again mainly because the colour you get and the way it makes you feel. But it's simply not worth it with the risk of skin cancer, and I also don't want to look like im made out of leather when I hit my 40s.
I since have had a worrying mole on my toe, It was never there before but hasn't really changed and I have had it seen by 2 doctors at 2 different times and they both said just to come back if anything had changed although it still worries me as it was never part of me before.
So self tanning is the way to go they say, well in my experience its not the greatest thing to do to yourself either, Now what I mean by that is I always thought it was me who was putting on the tan wrong that's why it was patchy, streaky at times, too orange because of certain products so ended up buying more expensive ones but last week I decided to get a lady around to do my nails and fake tan.
It's all about trial and error I was about 17 when I tried my first fake tan, not really paying attention to what I was doing I woke to find I was bright orange, had the brightest orange palms you had ever seen as I hadn't washed my hands afterwards oh I must have looked a right mess.
I did it again and again to myself for the last 7 years and I think only on one occasion was I happy with the result and that was when I used St Tropez self tan, I Exfoliated and washed the day before and then before bed I put it on and went to bed, It was messy and smelled a bit of that tan smell you get but when I had a shower the next day the tan was even and nice, not orange.
But a few days after I had the tan it was going patchy and I never knew how to get my hands looking normal without them going orange as I have very dry hands even more so in winter, more then the normal person it seems.
I have now found the best fake tan product ever and that's St Tropez every day it's about £11 for a big bottle and you can get it from www.fragrancedirect.co.uk which I have done a review on.
There are 2 strengths Fair to Medium and Medium to Dark, now I've tried the darker one and I found it was a bit too dark for me as I want a natural glow.
It's a tinted self tan moisturiser like Johnsons Holiday Skin which is another awful product which makes you orange and feels greasy don't recommend it at all.
So go for the tinted self moisturiser and the fair to medium if you have white skin and see how you get on! It's the best one I've ever tried and I've tried a hell of a lot of fake tans and tinted moisturisers.
****STAY AWAY FROM****
Piz Buin
Garner
Loreal
Johnssons
Rimmell
And the cheaper brands I have used and they have always made me orange and streaky, it's worth paying more if you want a more natural look. In fact I wouldn't touch a self tan again only the tinted ones that build up slowly that you can put on every day.
**** MY SPRAY TAN****
The beautician came last Monday and very professional so I had no worries she popped up the tent and I stripped off to just my undies!! But once you have been through child birth bearing your breasts does not really bother you.
She sprayed me all over very well and I had 2 choices of the strength of tan I wanted, I said give me the strongest.
She was using Fake Bake and I knew that had a good name so I was not worried but wow it was dark but didn't look bad, well not until the morning when I got up and washed It off to reveal I still had really dark skin that just seemed a bit too un natural.
I did tell her I had really dry hands but she said it would be ok as the tan has moisturiser in, but the problem I had was my hands were just so orange, it was awful and for the last week i have been covering them up wearing gloves and long sleeve tops.
When I look in the mirror the tan is disappearing slowly, however its patchy and doesn't look good at all, I would be very disappointed even more so if I had this sort of thing done for a special occasion like my wedding! Ekkk here comes the orange tangoed bride! Urmmm no not a good look.
I paid £20 for this tan and thought with it being done by a professional that it would turn out fabulous but I just looked too Jodi Marsh it was untrue! I also prepped my skin all week with exfoliating and making sure it was in tip top condition but it still didn't work out well.
So my conclusion with self tans is they are messy even when done professional it didn't turn out good.
It's hard to fake your skin colour!
Summary: Use a tinted self tan moisturiser
