Advantages: Treat your self!
Disadvantages: Time and effort
Feeling at loggerheads with the world I decided it was time to treat myself. As I didn't really have time for a proper pamper(i.e long hot bath with lots of candles) I thought I'd sort out my fingernails. Hmmmm my nails were looking pretty worse for wear, chipped nailvarnish alert! I've perfected a wonderful manicure with great products that I guarantee will have your hands and nails looking fantastic. So let me share my secret: 1/ Make sure your nails are in good shape by cutting with nail scissors. It's best to cut them after dipping nails in warm water(or after washing up!) when nails are soft. File in one direction towards the centre of the nail. Sort out any uneven edges with a nail buffer. I use 'Cutex Nail Buffer' which I find does the job well. 2/ Use a gentle nail varnish remover - I use 'Lancome Dissolvant Douceur Gentle Nail Enamel Remover' which is fantastic. Get rid of old nail varnish with cotton wool. 3/ Get a bowl of warm soapy water and soak nails for a few minutes. Apply cuticle cream to each nail and massage gently. Boots 17 do a good value cuticle cream. This cream will help moisturise your nails. 4/ I have dry skin and use The Body Shop's Almond Oil at this point to moisturise both hands and nails. It is good for all skin types. 5/ Finally you can get the nail colour out!! I'd recommend a base coat as you don't want to stain your nails do you?! Try 'Cutex Quick Dry 3-in-1' which is a fantastic all round product. When you apply your chosen colour do one stroke down the middle of the nail first. Then do the sides. It's best to apply two coats of nail polish (let the first one dry!). Using a topcoat will help stop chipping and make your nails look shiny! 'Cutex Quick Dry 3-in-1' can also be used as a topcoat too. If you want a quickdrying top coat then No.7 Fast Finish Top Coat is a good one.
r>My favourite nail colours are numerous, but special brands include 17 'Purple Wonder', 'Aqua Zone' by Maybelline and many by Bourjois. Cheap ones don't last for long (e.g Spectacular and Constance Carrol). However they may do if you are going to change your colour often. Me? I'd rather just do them once a week, it requires too much effort otherwise! Thanks for reading, hope this has been of some help (to girls at least!).

Rosani - 24.10.01 If you file your fingernails while wet you may be weakening them - I got this tip from a pro! So it's best to cut and file and then soak, so prevent brittle nails. |
