Advantages: Really does improve your hair, Good value for money, intensive treatment you can use every day.
Disadvantages: Up-front cost, Never seems to be on special offer
Although John Frieda Miracle Mend is recomended for very damaged, dyed hair, and despite the fact I have never dyed my hair, I was eager to snap this up. My hair is over waist length, so it needs a lot of tender loving care to keep it in good condition - I guess the ends are pretty geriatric for hair after all! I love the fact you can use this as a regular conditioner *and* as an intensive treatment - that does wonders for my faith in it's ability to be doing something, rather than just coating my hair in shiny gunk. And I'm shallow enough that the workman-like, medical-looking blue and silver tube of the packaging makes me think that way to. But it's not just packaging and flash - this stuff really does work, leaving my hair noticably stronger (much less breaking when I brush) as well as shiny and easy to handle. My housemate, who has long and dyed hair has noticed similar improvements, and without damage to the colour either. It works almost straight away : a one-off intensive treatment will make a noticiable difference. I've been using this regularly for over a year now, and my hair is in it's best ever condition. I us it as a regular conditioner for every day washing, and give it a five minute soak once or twice a week. When in the mood for total pampering I have left this in while I soaked in the bath for an hour or more, and it left my hair glorious - not greasy and over-conditioned, but healthy, shiny and strong. The texture takes a little bit of getting used to - this is a gently scented slightly waxy 'cream' that squeezes out of the tube like stiff toothpaste, and needs a little bit of effort to work it into your hair. This also means that you're a lot less likely to spill a load and waste it. Either the friction or the heat of your hands as you rub it in softnes and melts the conditioner into the hair, and it has great coverage, and rinses well. It does seem fairly expensive - about 4.
50 a go, but even with my very long hair a little goes along way, and it is certainly much better value than Fructis / Organics and the like, where I can go through a 2.50 bottle in three washes! Plus it actualy works! I would give this a strong recomendation to anyone who has 'fragile' hair. 10 out of 10!
