Advantages: reasonably priced and chic packaging, vanilla flavoured

Disadvantages: colours are too bold for my liking

If you don't already know, MAC is the first-ever cosmetic company to signed a drag queen, RuPaul, as the face of MAC which made the beauty industry draw its breath. MAC's colours are innovative and the prices are affordable. They don't test their products on animals and they put their money into fund raising rather than advertising. But they don't have to worry about not selling their products because they have a strong celebrity following. Now, everyone knows celebrity equals free publicity. Devotees include Mariah Carey to the late Princess Diana (who liked MAC's matte eye shadow in Taupe) to Michelle Pfeiffer. Their more famous products being the world-famous MAC lip pencil in Spice (Elle Macpherson and Linda Evangelista are fans) and MAC lipglass (clear lipgloss). According to Marie Claire Health and Beauty mag, Madonna even commissioned MAC to make a lipstick, called Russian Red, for her 1990 Blonde Ambition World Tour, which is today still a best-seller. Some celebs and their favourite MAC products are:

Patsy Kensit, Saffron from Republica, Lili Maltese - lipglass
Cameron Diaz - white frost eye shadow
Michelle Pfeiffer - studio fix foundation in C3
Britney Spears - lipstick in Lovedust
Sharon Stone - nail polish in Vino, Matte lipstick in Diva
Natalie Imbruglia - Spice lip pencil

Ok, so enough about the introduction on MAC and its celebrity followings. What about the products? When I checked out the lip pencil, it was just like any other normal nude lip pencils. Two other suspiciously similar products are the Body Shop's lip pencil in Beech and Kolor lip pencil in Spicy. They do foundations in a variety of shades, ie. suitable for any skin colourings. They do face and body foundations - terrific to cover-up spots on your backs when wearing low-cut clothings.

Anyway, I'm supposed to be giving an opinion on MAC's lipstick. The first thing I noticed about their range of lipsticks is
how bold they all are. It's due to the fact that most of their lipstick are highly pigmented, so one coat of it can last a long time. I bought two lipsticks at the airport about 3 years ago for 8.25 pounds each (duty free). I think it's 10 pounds each otherwise. The colours that I chose were called 'Shhh', a sheer red lipstick, and 'Captive', a semi-matte brownish mauve. The sheer lipstick looks very dark in its package but when applied, it gives a sheer and moist finish. It has a bluish tinge instead of an orange one, so it is great for people with cool colourings. The lipstick comes in a matte greyish package - very posh chic and ideal for showing off! The lipstick is vanilla flavoured and each lipstick weighs 3 grammes. In my opinion, compared to other up-market brands, 10 pounds for a MAC lipstick is considered reasonable. But to be honest, I do not quite like bold coloured lipsticks (because it doesn't look too natural with my fair colouring), so I would probably not buy their lipsticks for myself again, although I don't mind their other products. But I will probably buy them as presents for friends or relatives.
