Advantages: Amazing choice of colours and finishes
Disadvantages: Too many colours to choose from!
MAC lipsticks cost £11 each. They come in deep grey coloured plastic bullet shaped tubes (7 1/2 cm long and 1 1/2 cm across) with tiny specks of silver glitter embedded in the plastic. In the centre, is a band of silver which goes around the tube, and the MAC logo is written above the band, in silver. The lipsticks are the usual twist up design. MAC lipsticks come in every colour imaginable. I have just been onto the MAC website and counted way over 200 shades of lipstick!!! So there is definitely a colour out there to suit everyone! They sell every shade of pink, brown, peach, purple, red lipstick and more. MAC lipsticks come in a wide range of different finishes. Whether you prefer a sheer glossy finish with a hint of colour, or an intensely coloured creamy finish, you will find a finish that suits you. Here is a bit about the different finishes: * Amplified Finish - these are quite moisturising and slightly glossy, but the colour is very intense, so be warned! A creamy lipstick that has great staying power (the best of the finishes that I own - they will stay on for hours). * Frost Finish - these can also be drying, and sometimes the frostiness can be unflattering. Some colours are much more frosty than others. Wearing these with a balm/gloss can help them to look and feel better. Some of my favourite colours are in the Frost formula. These colours are very pigmented and last quite well. *Matte Finish - the name says is all really. These can be drying, so I make sure I wear a balm/gloss with them. Staying power is quite good and the colour is very pigmented. * Lustre Finish - the Lustre lipsticks are moisturising and slightly glossy. They are reasonably long-lasting, but don't last as long as some of the oth
er finishes. The colour is quite sheer. This is my favourite finish, as it gives a natural, not over-done look. *Sheer Finish - These provide a sheer hint of colour. I don't own one of these lipsticks, so can't comment on the lasting power. * Satin Finish - These provide a lot of colour, and are moisturising. These are not matte, but not glossy either. Lasting power is good. * Cream Finish - these are rich and creamy, slightly shiny and provide a good amount of colour. Lasting power is good. It should be noted that each colour is only available in one type of finish. Therefore if you prefer a quite sheer coloured lipstick for example, then I would advise picking a colour from the Sheer or Lustre range. If the colour is the most important thing to you, then go ahead and pick any colour that appeals to you! MAC lipsticks can be bought in MAC stores and in some department stores - see the MAC website for a list of stockists. Where I live, there is a MAC store, and MAC is also available in Debenhams. The lipsticks are normally on one large stand, with the lids off so you can see all the colours. The finishes are all mixed up, and they are usually arranged in colour groups. I have found that the sales assistants are very helpful. If you see a colour that you like, they will try it on you before you buy it, so you don't waste money on something that doesn't suit you. If you get confused by all the colours, then they are usually willing to pick out colours that suit you, and try them on you so you can see if you like them. It is worth trying a few on in-store, as there are so many to choose from, and they can look totally different on your lips to how they look in the tubes (e.g. some are too frosty when on, but you
can't tell that from the tube, and also some look much more better and more natural when on, than they look in the tube). These are some of my favourite MAC lipsticks: - Cosmo - this is in the Amplified formula, which is great if you are after intense colour. This is a lovely deep rose colour on me. - Coral Reef - A beautiful peachy colour which is great for the summer (Frost finish). - Plink - a natural pale pink, in the lustre formula. - Sandy B - a gorgeous very frosty peach (might be too frosty for some). - Skew - a natural pink perfect for everyday wear. - Sweetie - A medium rosy pink in the Lustre formula. Very pretty. I have around 12 MAC lipsticks at the moment, and I totally recommend them! Once you have used a lipstick up, keep the empty plastic tube as once you have used up any 6 MAC items that come in plastic containers, you can return them to the store and exchange them for a free lipstick. This is to encourage recycling and the scheme is called 'Back 2 MAC'
