Margaret Astor Water Sensation Compact Make Up

As you probably know by now, I'm a dedicated freebie hunter, especially for make up products as they can be so expensive to buy and so when I saw this offer I rushed off to fill in the form and claim my free sample.

It's basically a foundation or base make up if you like, which claims to give you a morning fresh feel all day long, sprtitzing your skin with moisture laden vitamins and minerals. It's made by Coty, which is a name you should recognise in the cosmetics industry.

When my sample arrived, about two weeks later I found that I had a lovely little 5g trial size version. I know that 5g doesn't sound a lot, but compared to other make up samples you find which are usually about 2ml,it's a good deal more and you should get 3 or 4 applications out of it. Anyway, it came in a little plastic compact, complete with it's own sponge and I also got a voucher worth £2 off my next purchase, provided I spend it before December 2001.The full size retails at around £8.99 apparently, so a £2 off voucher would be a good saving I'd say.


So to try it out then, using the sponge provided you start of in the middle of your face and blend outwards, couldn't be simpler. It glides on really easily and does feel lovely and refreshing as promised.

My first impression when I looked in the mirror was that it wasn't that brilliant, but after a couple of minutes it seemed to kind of settle down and the effect was quite natural. It does have a shine free finish and feels amazingly light; you hardly feel that you are wearing anything on your face at all. Some foundations can feel very heavy on your skin and you feel conscious of them being there all the time, but with this one you won't - except for the odd smell. Yes here comes the drawback, it has an aroma that reminds me of my Granny or my Great Aunty, hard to describe really except that it's sort of
face powdery and strange, very old fashioned.

Now don't get me wrong, normally I don't mind things that bring back memories of my Gran, but I certainly don't want to be smelling like her at my age do I? I'm only 36,especially as it's quite a strong smell.

Back to the foundation itself and enough of my rambling. I must say that I did like the stuff really; it stayed put all day long, was shine free and didn't irritate my skin so I can't really fault it in that respect. It's just the weird smell that puts me off a bit.

So would I buy it again? If they could change the fragrance then it would be very tempting, especially with my little money off coupon!
