From this point, perfume progressed over the years until finally, in 18th century France, a revolutionary advance in perfumery saw the invention of eau de Cologne. The 1920s brought a new era to fragrances. After the first World War, the perfume industry expanded rapidly and new perfume companies emerged. By the 1950s, business was booming and perfumes became inspired by romance - a subject which is a popular theme behind many perfumes today. One such perfume is Kingdom. It is the first female fragrance to be introduced by the British fashion designer, Alexander McQueen and is quite a new perfume really. It was l... more

Perfume....its the perfect finishing feel good *accessory* to any girls outfit and it has been around for thousands of years. The name comes from the Latin per fume, meaning through smoke. History shows that the Ancient Egyptians were the first to incorporate perfume into their culture. From religious ceremonies involving the burning of incense to the embalming of the dead, perfume was an integral part of Egyptian life. The women also began to apply perfumed oils and creams before nookie! The use of perfume quickly spread to Greece (where it was used by Alexander the Great), Rome (where it was used to celebrate the goddess of Flora) and China ...  Read the complete review

On my last visit to France, I was determined to buy a REAL French perfume. One that was different from the well known brands. So at the Hypermarket, I went into the Perfumerie to look, but only the usual ones that you see in the Duty Free shops and in our stores at home were there. I bought a couple, but was not satisfied, as they were not what I call REAL French perfumes. Later on during the visit, I reached a place called Dinard. This is an elegant Edwardian resort on the north coast of Brittany. Not a very big place, with a beach and touristy shops and cafes. I had almost given up on my perfume search, until looking for a restaurant in the evening, I ...  Read the complete review

For years every Christmas and Birthday I used to alternate my Christmas present list between the Yves St Laurent fragrance Opium and The Giorgio Beverley Hills perfume Giorgio. However, one year I had been away on holiday and had plenty of both perfumes so when my brother asked me which perfume I would like him to buy me for Christmas I was at a bit of a loose end - I always like to receive more expensive perfumes for Christmas and Birthdays as it is the only time I ever receive designer perfumes as I cannot afford to go out and buy them for myself. Luckily my brother often travels abroad for work and is therefore usually able to purchase perfumes at a reduced rate on ...  Read the complete review

I was really inspired by Jill's request for us to write about our favourite things because I have so many. However there isn't a section for me to write about my most favourite thing-Scott my boyfriend and I've already written about my cat,so I looked around me and thought hard. So I decided to write about the perfume I use everyday and have done for several years now. Chanson D Air was the first bottle of perfume I ever bought for myself, and I bought it one summer when I was on holiday in Lanzarote. I only bought a tiny bottle, enough to discover I adored the scent and wanted to smell that way all the time. I bought a second much larger bottle ...  Read the complete review

Choosing a perfume sounds a relatively easy thing – but it isn’t. Finding a scent you like is a very personal choice. One fragrance might smell great on a tester page or your friend’s wrist, but just doesn’t seem the same on you. Plus do you really want to shell out a tenner or more on a perfume you might not like? So some advantages about the Avon range are : * they have a wide range of perfumes available - so there should be something to suit everyone's taste * they aren't too expensive - usually no more than £10 * you can buy plenty of cheaper versions of the scent in different products to check you really do like ...  Read the complete review
