“The great thing about a man is his vision” - W.James Descartes’ substance dualism has left us with unanswered questions for consideration when looking at what ‘the mental’ is. Descartes has left us with the question of 1st/ 3rd person authority over our minds, and with this comes the question of privacy concerning our own mental states.
