ABOUT THE USUI SYSTEM OF REIKI HEALING
This treatment method starts in Tibet. The name "Reiki" (rey-key)comes from the technique as re-discovered by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Western Buddhist in the early Last century.
"Re" indicates "Universal" and it is a common phrase for spirit or hidden religious quality, which assists as direct for "Ki" or "Life Power Energy" (some call it God, Buddha, Chi, Qi, Prana, Love Energy, or similar). It concerns the superior, all-encompassing cosmic power from which all other small powers in the galaxy draw their power. Everything in the Whole world is made up from power information which type the Omniscient, All-Knowing Plan for Creation. The Vital Living Energy Power comes in different symptoms of power and one of these being the frequencies in which Reiki was born.
The Usui System of Organic Therapeutic shows you us also the "Secret Art" of "Inviting Happiness" into one's lifestyle which can be achieved by working with the Five Reiki Beliefs and the Three Certifications of Attunements. The Five Reiki Beliefs help us realize that improving ourselves is an essential element of Reiki treatment.
HOW REIKI HEALING ENERGY WORKS?
The reiki program is more than just a collection of attunements. Since everything produces a consistency, your body and its organs have their own power field which is continually changing. All circumstances of disorder are based in this reiki power program. If our "life force" chi - is low , we are more likely to get sick. But if it is high and streaming unhampered, we can maintain our wellness and well being.
I had Reiki whilst pregnant with all three of my children now 4, 2 and 12 days old:) I found it very relaxing whilst pregnant as any tension I had about the birth and physical pregnancy niggles were eased considerably. I would recommend any women who is pregnant to seek a good reliable Reiki Practitioner who is experienced. I had Reiki from www.reikitrainingschool.com and it was brilliant.
I also didn't realise that Reiki Energy can be sent to anywhere it is needed. My Reiki Practitioner used Healing Energy to avoid stretch marks before they appeared and i can honestly say three children later and I have not got one stretch mark - so I can say yes it does work!! I would recommend any pregnant woman giving Reiki a try throughout her whole pregnancy like i did and to have it for post baby too as it balances all those lovely hormones we love so much!!
I think it makes a difference to the kind of birth that you have also, as all three of my children were born really naturally and in a relaxed way and I put it all down to the Reiki i had. As you can tell I am definately pro Reiki:) I rave about it to anyone who will listen as I do think anyone (not just when pregnant) can benefit from this lovely way of healing.
If anyone is having problems conceiving, Reiki is very good for balancing all of your chakras freeing them from energy blocks/negative energy, which can hinder your body on a physical level. If you look on the website above you will see that there are also fertility treatments which would be a wonderful way of working on having a beautiful bundle i should imagine. I spoke to my Reiki Practitioner and he had worked with several ladies who were having trouble conceiving by balancing with Reiki Energy and freeing blocks etc and they had conceived this way after years of not being able to - and they were amazed and thrilled that something so relaxing and natural could help them.
It does seem too good to be true and a leap of faith from what we all know to be the conventional approach, but if you do make that step, you will never look back as it is fabulous:)
Love to everyone who is trying Reiki for the first time xxxx
Reiki is a hands on method of healing which originated in the east, the word Reiki means Universal Life force and it can be used on yourself, other people , animals and plants.
To be able to use Reiki you have to be attuned to it by a Reiki master and this is described as something like tuning in a radio to pick up a signal from a particular station. Most spiritual healers will tell you that there are lots of life energies around in the universe and Reiki tunes into a certain one.
Reiki is not a religious thing and can be used by people from all religions and cultures.
You must also remember that with all alternative therapies or treatments, it is wise to carry on seeing your own doctor and never stop taking any medicine you have been prescribed until your own doctor advises it.
There are three degrees of Reiki and these are taught on different levels, the first and primary one is to heal yourself. If you have healed everything about yourself which needs to be done, then you can go onto healing others, as it is no good trying to heal others when you are not all right yourself.
The second degree of Reiki is the practitioner level and it passes on the sacred symbols, which the person can access and focus upon to be able to heal with Reiki.
The third degree of Reiki is for those people who have a deep commitment to Reiki and are using it in their everyday life. It enables them to initiate others into the Reiki healing technique. A Reiki Master can teach others and initiate them by attuning them into the Reiki energy.
There are five principles to Reiki and these are guidelines to help gain happiness in life.
1. Just for today I will not get angry.
2. Just for today I will not worry.
3. Just for today I will work hard .
4. Just for today I will give thanks for my blessings.
5. Just for today I will be kind to every living thing.
These are the five principles and can be said everyday, they can be wrote down and stuck on your notice board or fridge and even carried around in your handbag, so that you can look at them and contemplate the meaning of each.
By asking ourselves why we got angry, or why we dont want to work today and by trying to be nice to everyone and thinking of all the good things we have in life. We can become more happy and at easy with our life, which is good for the mind body and spirit.
When going for Reiki treatment there are two types of healer you can see. One is the professional Reiki practitioner and the other is a person who has been initiated into Reiki but only does it to help family and friends.
Always make sure you have plenty of time to get to the healing session as rushing around before hand will tense you up and this will hinder the treatment, a nice relaxed state is the best to be in for Reiki.
Let the healer know exactly where you want the treatment done, if its for back pain then point out the areas which give you the most trouble. Remove all jewellery and watches and shoes. Most Reiki healers have a bench for you to lay on but you dont have to undress to receive treatment. Just make sure you feel comfortable. It is also advised not to eat a big meal before or after treatment and some people may find that after treatment they feel the need to go to the loo, but this is the Reiki working on the body getting rid of toxins. Some people feel tired or have an increased energy boost.
There are so many ways to use Reiki by placing you hands around certain objects to give them the Reiki treatment you are passing on the healing and giving to others. Energise drinks and food, using Reiki on plants can help them to grow. Putting your hands around gifts and giving them the Reiki treatment makes them even more special.
For first aid you can help to slow down minor bleeding, calm panic, reduce pain and take the sting out of insect bites, ease aches, it helps with PMT and lots of other minor ailments.
Reiki can take about a month to learn the first degree of Reiki training and a period of about three months is usually waited before you go on to the second degree of Reiki training, this is so that you can concentrate on what you have learned and can experience the things learned in the first degree. This second degree can take another month and a laps of twenty one days has to be waited before you can go onto the final degree, a diary has to be kept for you to show your teacher, what experiences you have had and of the progress you have made and anything you feel you need to write about the Reiki training you have had. To begin Reiki training you need to be initiated and attuned into Reiki .
If you have made the decision to learn the Reiki healing techniques then you have to get yourself ready for the initiation. This has to be a change to your way of life, no meat for a week this includes fish and chicken.
You have to go on a liquid diet for two to three days, this can be water, fruit or vegetable juice. This will also detoxify the body. You must cut out caffeine, nicotine, sugar, sweets and stimulants. Watching television and computers has to be avoided as they emit rays which affect us.
Go for quiet walks and meditate to release negative thoughts.
These are a guideline to the things you have to follow for the three days preceding your training.
There is so much to learn about Reiki, the position of the hands on the body, the sealed treatment, auras, distance healing and lots more. This is why you need to write things down in a diary as you are progressing along the degrees of Reiki.
I hope you have found all this interesting and if you need to find out more then you can visit.

Thanks for reading.
Reiki healing, I had never heard of it before a friend spoke about it to me and explained it was an ancient Japanese art of healing and self healing and surprise surprise he had just been on a weekend course to launch his Hostilic career. He was looking for volunteers to practice the newly discovered art, so never being one to be bashful (especially when it is free) I volunteered. Not knowing what to expect he explained that it starts with lying on a table fully clothed and the ?laying? of hands commenced starting with light touch on the head, sides of neck, forehead, temples etc and working slowly down the body, touch stops after the upper chest, so all you shybee?s out there, no need to be worried. Then the hands travel to other points on the body over the tummy, hips, groin, knees, legs and feet, no touch on these places remember hovering about three four inches above. Whilst undergoing the head part of the treatment I found an amount of heat in these places which I did not expect, on the upper chest also even though this part of my anatomy was clothed. I did not feel much heat in the intermediate areas until we got to the nether regions of my lower legs and feet then I could feel it again. After the treatment was finished I just wanted to go to sleep, I asked how long it had been I genuinely thought about twenty or thirty minutes but it seems it was a full forty five minutes, time rushes past when your enjoying yourself. If I was having to pay for it may not be so enjoyable, as treatments can be varied in price average about fifteen to around thirty pounds a session depending where you are located I presume and of course on the mastery of the practitioner. This kind of treatment only works if you believe in it so it would seem, and I am not sure weather I do or not, so for now I will stay open minded, however what I do know is I was surprised at the amount of heat generated and I also felt very relaxed afterwards, we
ather this simple human touch we all lack I am not really sure, I?ll keep you updated after my next treatment, yes there will indeed be another as I found it an enjoyable experience.
I have only had one experience of Reiki, but it was enough to make me believe that it is more than a relaxing massage. I was lucky enough to be offered a half hour session for £5 whilst at a psychic fayre, otherwise I probably would not have bothered to go to a healer and pay a lot more. At the time I was particularly stressed, being in the middle of my finals for one. My healer did not know this and believed that I was just curious - not that I was going loopy with anxiety and needed help fast!! She explained that, while she believed in a spiritual, religious origin to the energy created, others were happy to accept it as a natural movement of energy for one person to another. I laid down, fully clothed, on a massage table and got ready for the action to begin! I admit that I was a bit spooked when my healer raised her hands to the heavens and started quietly chanting under her breath. Nevertheless, I remained still and let her carry on. She began by moving her hands over my head. She said she could feel an enormous amount of tension in my head. Fair enough, anyone could say that...but what made the difference was when she held her hand in front of my forehead (not touching the skin) and I could feel the energy pulsating between her hand and my head. She said she could feel it without me mentioning anything. Very strange indeed! As she carried on she noted various points were she felt there were problems, in particular my lower abdomen, which she linked to possible menstrual problems. As I get horrific PMT and have a hormonal imbalance I think she was pretty spot-on. She ended by making sweeping movements down my body as if pushing out all the bad stuff. It did feel indeed as if I was being purified of all the stress and toxins. Afterwards I did feel pretty 'zen' and followed her advice to get up gently. I was advised to drink lots of fluid to flush out the impurities. Most impo
rtantly she advised me not to drink alcohol as my body would now be particularly sensitive. As it was a Saturday I was disappointed, but not discouraged and decided to go out on the town anyway. The next morning I had, unusually for me, a hangover from hell! Was it just coincidence or too many whisky and cokes? I haven't been back to a reiki healer again, but I would definitely like to, even if it is just to confirm my belief. I could do with a bit of energy cleansing so this could be the answer.
What is it? It was developed in 18th-century Japan by a Buddhist monk named Usui Sensei and is pronounced 'ray-key'. Reiki is Japanese for "Universal Life Force Energy". It is the essence of life that flows through all living things. Reiki is drawn by the receiver, through the Reiki Healer's hands, and aids in balancing and healing on all levels. Reiki is hands-on healing treatment, which can only be passed on by a person who has been attuned to the Reiki energy by a Reiki Master. It uses specific hand positions along the Chakras (energy "meridians" of the body), and also to areas of pain and discomfort, helping to unblock the flow of energy through a person's body. The theory is that a Reiki practitioner heals by conducting 'positive energy' through your energy field, so raising its vibratory level and dispersing negative energy, thus allowing the life force to flow freely and healthily. Reiki also complements orthodox medical treatments and is said to speed up healing and reduce pain. Some patients compare it to a spiritual experience and even reported altered states of consciousness during a session. What can it do? You do not have to be ill to benefit from Reiki! Reiki can ease pain, help with emotional problems, past, present and future. It strengthens the immune system, detoxifies the body and it can help you to cope with stress. Reiki is non-invasive and you remain fully dressed for the treatment. It does not use manipulation and it does not create dependency. It is good for: lack of energy depression poor circulation insomnia panic attacks cancer MS respiratory problems low self-esteem digestive problems nervous tension About treatments A normal treatment session is about 1 hour, although this may vary depending on the condition. It is normal for the receiver to lie down on a bed or couch, but it i
s possible to sit if necessary. You will not be required to remove any of your clothing, though you may want to remove ties and shoes. The practitioner simply lays their hands on your body, or in your aura, and allows energy to flow. This is not consciously directed to anywhere specific, but is said to be pulled by the body to whatever parts of it need healing. A session can last anything from 25 minutes to 1 1/2 hours, depending on your health needs and what you have agreed with the Reiki healer. During treatment you may become aware of the generation of heat, or feel a tingling sensation, from the healer's hands. You may also feel a sense of peace and well-being, or you may feel nothing at all, which doesn't mean that you are not been healer. Afterwards you may feel relaxed and sleepy or relaxed but invigorated. Most healers will not talk during the session but may discuss things afterwards with you. For best results a minimum of 3 sessions is advisable. You draw what you need to help break the cycle. Chronic conditions may take longer. Energy pathways can be very scrambled, hence resultant illnesses. My experiences I was first told about Reiki at a self help group for Panic, Phobias and Anxiety (H.O.P.E.) and at the time I was filming for the BBC 2's programme "Private Investigations". I found a Reiki Master in Luton and went along for 1 session. It was a weird, but not frightening experience, as the heat generated from the healer's hands is quite incredible. That was in April 1999 and at the beginning of September 2000 I decided to go back and have 3 more Reiki sessions. I began by laying on a couch on my back and then half way through the session, turn over and lay on my stomach. It is difficult to explain how it feels but it is quite relaxing, not at all frightening and gets me to stay still for 1 hour! I usually feel a bit strange after the Reiki but apparently t
hat is quite normal as the body starts to heal itself. I am hoping that as time goes on I will feel the full benefit of the healing and that my body will heal itself with the help of the Reiki energy. Contacts Whilst in training, Reiki practitioners must work their way through a series of set levels, or 'attunements' - of which level 4 is the final one. You need to find a practitioner who is not only trained but one that you feel comfortable with. As the treatment can be hands-on, you may want to find someone of the same sex. If you want to experience Reiki then find a practitioner who is a member of a recognised body, such as "The Reiki Association". Contact them on 01981 550829 or visit their Web site at www.reikiassociation.org.uk. You can also contact "The International Reiki Association" on 0709 1214521 or "The UK Reiki Federation". Their email address is firstname.lastname@example.org and their Web site is at www.reikifed.co.uk. If you live in the Luton area, then you may wish to contact the lady I see for Reiki. Her name is Les Eames and you can call her on (01582) 459060. Her email address is "email@example.com" or you can visit her Web site at www.activehealing.co.uk. Unfortunately I have no other contacts for Reiki so all I can suggest is that you look in the "Yellow pages" under "Reiki" to see if anyone in your area offers treatment. Related Sites I thought it would be easy to find a good Reiki site on the Internet that didn't just promote the individual Reiki Master's services, but explained Reiki in detail - I was wrong, and all I found was: sites.netscape.net/dirceu/home/reiki.htm www.reiki.org/FAQ/FAQHomepage.html www.reikikauai.com www.reikiuk.net www.reikiassociation.org.uk www.reikifed.co.uk www.activehealing.co.uk www.coerdelion.demon.co.uk/Reiki1.html Some of these sites have "Reiki Lin
ks" as well so they may be of interest. Most of the Internet search engines found hundreds of hits for Reiki but a lot of them were for paid services (particularly in the USA) and did not give much detail about Reiki itself. How much does it cost? A typical 1 hour session will cost between £30 - £35. Most Reiki healers will recommend an initial 3 session course and usually offer a reduction for this. e.g. £75 for 3 seesions or £30 per session.
To begin with, let me explain the theory of what reiki is as I understand it. Reiki is the ability to channel energy from all around us, through the hands and into either a recipient or oneself for a beneficial, healing effect. If you've ever been to a reiki meeting where new initiates gather to have this blessing of healing ability bestowed upon them, you'll know the power of the atmosphere that is generated. You'll also know that you have to part with an awful lot of money for an awful lot of nothing. I really find it quite disturbing that people will stoop to the level of selling false hope to the emotionally and physically needy. What is on offer for those who don't know is the ability to channel healing energy through the palms of the hands. The reiki master generously bestows this power upon you once you have parted with hundreds of pounds. The gift is given by the reiki "master" taking you off to a room where you close your eyes and they make a funny wibbly noise with their mouth and then blow on your face. This procedure follows two days of "discussion" and "exercises". The format of the discussion involved a question and answer format where people (about 100 of us) voiced their health or emotional concerns and were given some reasonably sound advice usually involving diet. What disturbed me was the reverence surrounding our master as though they were a fount of all knowledge. The exercises were somewhat weirder. Such as the hug a stranger exercise, and the singing "you are so beautiful to me" into the eyes of a stranger. Hmmmm. Make your own mind up on that one. Eventually after two days of talking about it, everyone is desperate to get a taste of what they've laid out cash for. You then try out their new powers. The fact that people felt warm when people touched them was apparently enough evidence to claim t
hat some miracle was taking place. I was not convinced. The power of touch alone is very powerful and can provoke all kinds of emotional reaction. And if you tell me you have to believe for it to work, well that sounds like pure placebo. What shocked me was people's willingness to believe. I'm a broadminded person, but please, don't be taken in by this collusion between patient and practitioner who have the faith. And above all, avoid the singing. I guess that is the point though, and the difference between those that buy it and those that don't. Faith. Either you got it or you don't. And personally i can't believe in something just because i'm asked to. When i took the course, there were two types on offer at the time. Reiki 1 and reiki 2. Now there are all types of different flavours you can buy and few people tend to agree on what's legit and what's not. This kind of marketing strategy just reminds me of timeshare or chain letters or pyramid investment schemes. I know they're not that similar, but that's my gut feeling, my faith if you like. We all need a little extra from life from time to time, but don't go out and buy it. Do something constructive for yourself and others instead.
I started looking into Reiki about two years ago, because I'd heard the name three or four times in a week and realised I knew nothing about it. I found three books in the nearest book shop and they all said completely different things. The only points of agreement were that it healed people, or helped to at least, was easy, and really worked. On everything else it was chaos. The hand positions mattered, or didn't. The things said mattered, or didn't. The symbols mattered, or didn't. The attitude of the patient and even whether the patient was actually there mattered, or didn't, depending on who you believed. Some authors, as I discovered on reading more, claim that your healing Reiki power must be passed on by an authentic master. Others offer to power you up over the internet. I suddenly realised that this was a form of healing where whatever you believed worked, it worked. Reiki is just a name to let people belive that they can do nice things to each other's energy. And good. I like that. But there is another word for it. Magic(k). Soon after this, I met a friend who had had very weird experiences doing Reiki. Hers was the type where you say what you want to happen, adding "only if it's for the good of everyone" and then say your short incantation and off you go. In addition to healing people, she had caused plants to flower, even species that normally didn't (!) and other oddnesses. She then did Reiki to try to protect a friend who was harming himself with drugs. He was arrested almost at once and had to stop. She stopped too, Reiki that is. Healing energy is one thing, controlling policemen quite another, she thought. I'm not for a moment trying to put people off Reiki, because I think it's wonderful and it works.(Although certain chi kung masters say that it's not exact enough and is a bit of a blunt instrument as far as energy systems go) But I think peo
ple should be aware that Reiki is the acceptable face of Magick, and that we live in a magical universe, like it or not.
Reiki has a unique history - Believed to have started in Tibet several thousand years ago by monks, a verbal story was passed down to a man called Dr. Usui to a Dr Hayashi who in turn taught a lady called Mrs Takata in the early part of the 1930's. Unfortunately, without much hard evidence before World War II it gives the opportunity for scepticism. Still it speaks for itself, don't knock it until you've tried it. Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is a method of natural healing based on the "universal life force energy" (Rei meaning spirit and Ki meaning subtle or spiritual energy) It's a truly powerful system that can deal with problems of any kind, whether it's physical, mental, emotional or spiritual and can sometimes succeed where other treatments haven't. It's not a religion or cult, it's not difficult to use and you don't have to be any religion to practice or receive it. It's just an alternative, natural way to rid you of all those ills, or just relax you in a way you have never been relaxed before. It also seems to be an intelligent energy that finds the part of body (or mind) with the greatest need. It has been known to aid other medical treatments, enhance medicines and quicken healing time. Reiki releases the inner flow of spiritual energy allowing it to move throught the 'Chakras'(energy centers in and around the body) and 'Meridians'(Central Nervous System Channels) as used by other well known treatments such as accupunture. The art of "laying on of hands' is as old as the hills, It's a natural instinct to put your hands on somebody who has been injured or isn't well, my Mum used to do it all the time. There aren't any complicated rituals to perform, just wear loose, comfortable clothing, take off all jewellery as this can cause the Ki to stop moving. Have a bath and wash your hands as this will rid you of all negit
ive charges you may have picked up during the day Go there with a desired goal, say if you're suffering from depression or constipation (not at the same time though!) Tell the practitioner your thoughts and talk things through, they do understand your worrys. What the healer will do is place their hands on or very near you, first focusing on your head and then they proceed down the Chakras of the body - The third eye, throat, heart, abdomen and the base of the spine are treated in succession with each position lasting at least 3 minutes, however a session can last up to an hour. The warmth and the deep relaxation you will feel is sooooo nice, just like getting into a newly made bed after a hot bath, lovely. How do you find a practitioner? - no, there isn't a section in the Yellow Pages!, but they usually combine this treatment with others such as Massage, Hypnotherapy etc and the Yellow Pages do have sections for those. Most areas have a YMCA or community hall who constantly pop leaflets through your door suggesting yoga, tai chi classed, meditation and the like. Some of these people may also offer Reiki or know somone/where that does. Charges or 'donations' vary from 10 - 25 pounds. With this form of self help it is quite possible to treat yourself, you do this simeply by placing your own hands on yourself and concentrating to make the energy run. I can hear you saying "Why bother with this hippy hog wash?", well, what have you got to lose?
Reiki is a method of healing which uses spiritually guided lifeforce energy. A typical session lasts about an hour and it leaves the recipient relaxed and with a sense of well-being. The client lays down, fully clothed, and the practitioner places their on or just above the body in specific places. The recipient will start to relax and drift into a detached state but still be aware of what is going on around them. The main sensations are of warmth or tingling, or a feeling of heaviness. Sometimes recipients sense colours or smells. Reiki actually calms the body and assists natural healing within the body. So how do you learn to give this treatment? People aren't born with a natural ability to channel Reiki even though energy is everywhere and in everything. You have to receive an energy attunement from a Reiki Master to be able to do this. It's a bit like whewn you start making yoghurt. You need a little bit of yoghurt to start off the culture. This treatment works on whatever needs the receiver has so it can help in many different ways. Don't think that this is a magic cure though. reiki is one of the most natural and safest therapies available. I have used it to ease the pain of arthritic joints and to help with insomnia. You don't have to be ill to benefit from this treatment either. If you are stressed, worried, depressed or even just tired, you may well find this useful.
Well i have been a Reiki master for 4 months now, but have been doing reiki for 2 years now, and i must say it has changed my life. Before the attunement process, i was seeing the world through a pair of sunglasses, and reiki took them off, you really only know this process when you have been through it. I'm talking of more a spiritual progress, rather than an immediate physical one. I would thoroughly recommend reiki to anyone for physical, emotional and mental ailments, but i would also keep my wits about me if going for a healing.... there are con artists about.... don't pay huge prices for reiki there is no need, some people pay vast amounts of money for a healing as it' a fairly new fad.. but a person charging only a small amount, can have just as good an effect. I would ask around for recommendations, or have a sample session, to see if it "feels" right to you.. yes go by instinct..... I don't really want to repeat what anyone else has said about this, so i shall write more another time...
The word Reiki means "Universal Energy". The practice of Reiki is about channelling this universal energy to make it available to those who are in need of help. I practice Reiki amongst other systems of healing. Reiki was discovered by Mikao Usui - a Christian Minister in Japan. In it's traditional form, Reiki consists of certain hand positions that are used on the client and mystical symbols, given to the practitioner during "attunement" and to the client during healing. Over the years, other forms of Reiki have developed. Being rather controversial, I personally believe that Reiki has always been in existence and it is a normal natural ability of humans to be able to "heal". I use inverted commas here because people have different ideas of what "healed" means. No - Reiki cannot grow you another limb or cure congenital blindness - but it may heal your spirit so you deal with life in a different way. It may lift you emotionally and therefore reduce pain or anxiety. In all my healing I tend to work more with emotional and/or spiritual problems than physical. I have found it works very well in cases of depression. Every practitioner of healing has different areas of practice they are drawn to. However - I have worked on people with neck and back problems, difficulty after pregnancy and birth problems, headaches, sprains and stroke. All have experienced improvement afterwards. A Reiki treatment does not require you to believe in the healing or be religious in any way. It simply asks "Will you accept the energy being given to you?" If you are open to the experience you may be surprised. Usually the practitioner will ask you to sit or lie down. Beforehand they will probably explain how they work and perhaps ask you a few questions about yourself. Reiki is often practised hands on but if you are uncomfortable with this don't be afraid to say so. Most good pract
itioners will ask you whether you would prefer the hands-on or off approach. You can usually take a friend with you if you feel nervous. The actual process of healing is a very relaxing one. Sometimes there is quiet music playing in the background. Practitioners will ensure that you are comfortable and warm. You may feel sensations like tingling or heat in different parts of your body as they work over you. You may feel like laughing or crying. Your stomach may rumble! Don't worry about any of this - it is all part of the process. Most people have their eyes closed during treatment and a lot of clients have reported seeing colours or images as the treatment progresses. Again - this is all part of it. Afterwards you are allowed some quiet time to come round slowly. You may feel sleepy - or you might have fallen asleep! Your practitioner should check you feel fully awake and alert before you leave. Try and go at a time when you can rest afterwards. If possible avoid stimulants and alcohol and drink water. Reiki encourages the elimination of toxins on all levels. Occasionally people experience what is called a "healing crisis" after treatment. Sometimes people wake up the following day with a bit of a cold - or maybe you feel tearful. This is good sign that the Reiki is doing its work but contact your practitioner if you are worried. Many people have also reported having vivid dreams in the following days after treatment. It may be worth writing these down and going through them to see what issues have surfaced. All in all Reiki is a gentle soothing experience. Having been both practitioner and client I always find it a very beautiful experience. The price of treatments varies from people doing it for a donation only to £15-20 per session. Therefore it may be worth shopping around - so to speak. The best way is to get recommendations from others who have already had a Reiki session. Reiki is open to all and children and animals can receive it too. Distant healing can also be sent to someone in need. If you are considering a Reiki session I would say try it. You have nothing to lose! For more information go to:- http://www.reikifed.co.uk/
I discovered Reiki several years ago at a folk festival and it was £5. for 15 mins, I had never tried anything like it before and it truly was a wonderful experience and I went on to train as a Reiki practitioner because it had such an impact on me. Although I am very open to most things I would not describe myself as hippyish or folksy I am just your average run of the mill mum/wife, this confirms my belief that Reiki is for everyone. I can do Reiki on myself which is wonderful but I have to discipline myself to do this as like most parents time for myself is at a premium. Family and friends have benefited too although my husband is still suspicious and thinks it is a bit freaky. The practioner places their hands either on or just above the several chakra points in the body, starting at the head and working down to the feet , both on the front and the back of the body, most people have described the feeling as a wonderful warmth spreading through their body, though it can provoke a whole range of emotions. Give it a try it will be well worth it.
I trained as a Reiki practitioner some years ago and found it very helpful. I practiced on myself and it helped me through a very difficult time - helping with relaxation, motivation, decision making and inducing wellbeing. Whether it really works on mental/physical illnesses I am not really sure but it is a power I believe I have and will always be with me for the time when I want to use it again, either for myself or to help others. My only problem has been finding people with the time and inclination to try it.
Several of my friends are reiki practitioners- and i've promised myself that i will do the course one day-but it is quite expensive. There also seems to be a bit of a mystery surrounding it unlike most of the other therapies. I believe there are certain symbols that the reiki master concentrates on (but I may be misguided here.) However having had a reiki healing session- I found it very relaxing and calming. It is like a form of spiritual healing, or laying on of hands. Once you start to attune to what is going on you can feel the energy move, feel tingly etc. I have found it very good with headaches. Again this is something that you might need on a regular basis and again depending on the therapist this could prove very expensive.
