What is it? It was developed in 18th-century Japan by a Buddhist monk named Usui Sensei and is pronounced 'ray-key'. Reiki is Japanese for "Universal Life Force Energy". It is the essence of life that flows through all living things. Reiki is drawn by the receiver, through the Reiki Healer's hands, and aids in balancing and healing on all levels. Reiki has a unique history - Believed to have started in Tibet several thousand years ago by monks, a verbal story was passed down to a man called Dr. Usui to a Dr Hayashi who in turn taught a lady called Mrs Takata in the early part of the 1930's. The word Reiki means "Universal Energy". The practice of Reiki is about channelling this universal energy to make it available to those who are in need of help. I practice Reiki amongst other systems of healing. Reiki was discovered by Mikao Usui - a Christian Minister in Japan. Reiki is a hands on method of healing which originated in the east, the word Reiki means Universal Life force and it can be used on yourself, other people , animals and plants. I have only had one experience of Reiki, but it was enough to make me believe that it is more than a relaxing massage. I was lucky enough to be offered a half hour session for £5 whilst at a psychic fayre, otherwise I probably would not have bothered to go to a healer and pay a lot more.
