Up until a few weeks ago I worked for a Mental Health Charity. My job was very stressful, but also very rewarding. However it was not physically challenging so I left. The role of my job was to support, counsel, and befriend people with mental health problems, such as depression, bi polar disorder and schizophrenia. Having recently watched several films, where characters are portrayed as having Schizophrenia, I realise how real sufferers must feel at these misrepresentations. Having been a Clinical Nurse Manager in the Psychiatric field, working with this illness in both a hospital and community setting, I thought it may be helpful to dispel some of the myths.
