Advantages: Lovely smell, leaves skin soft, gets me to calm down, albeit for only 15 minutes

Disadvantages: None

Christy Cosmetics : Jasmine & Evening Primrose Face Mask

I like face masks because they give me an excuse to relax for 15 minutes or so at weekends, the rest of which are spent running around madly trying to get everything done. I buy the cheapo ones here (about 18p each @ Penny Markt if you’re ever in the country) but when other people are buying there’s nothing I like better than trying out a new ‘un. For Christmas I got two from the Christy range, and this is the one I’ve tried so far.

### PACKAGING ###

Face masks usually come in single-use sachets, or tubes containing enough for half a dozen applications. This was the former, a pinky purple sachet with a huge 70s style flower on the front. Christy products have undergone a huge makeover since I first learnt about them in the early 90s, and the packaging is now modern, fresh and lively, and much more appealing that it used to be.

At the top there’s a punched out hole – for you to hang it up in the bathroom perhaps? Or for shops to hang them up on display? Except face masks are always, always lying down or propped up, at least in the places I shop. It’s as easy to open as any sachet (so not all that easy, but manageable), and you can cut it if you have scissors handy, or rip it from the place indicated.

### APPEARANCE, SMELL & APPLICATION ###

The goo, sorry, mask inside is a peachy pink colour. It has a nice flowery scent which is faint and not overwhelming. The mask is sticky but not runny, so it’s easy to apply to skin without dropping huge goops allover the sink. You are advised, as with most masks, to avoid the delicate eye area and lips when applying (but the non-delicate bits of your eyes are ok?) and to leave it on for 10-15 mins.

### IMMEDIATE EFFECTS ###

Within about five minutes my skin felt tight. Another five and I couldn’t smile or laugh for fear of it cr
acking. By the time the 15 mins were up if was getting uncomfortable, but in a good way. One reason I dislike creamy masks is that they never feel like they’re working, and I sometimes think putting hair conditioner on my skin for quarter of an hour would have the same effect. This isn’t a problem with this one. It dries hard, sucking out the dirt as it does so.

Once I washed it off, I looked, well let’s just say I looked like I’d been to visit a certain Ally Mc Beal chiropractor’s chair. For those of you who don’t watch, my skin was a bright, flushed pink. It was super soft and made me look healthy and outdoors-ey. The colour faded away within about 10 minutes, but my skin still felt clean and looked clear for a good 24 hours. This mask is recommended for use “ one or two times a week” though my routine seems to be more like “one or two times a fortnight” because I don’t see the need, nor have the time, to use them more frequently.

### VERDICT ###

This is a mask I’d recommend if you’re into such things. There’s absolutely nothing I could fault – it smells nice, looks good, is easy to apply and the effects last for ages. One I’ll go back to….once I’ve tried every other face mask on the planet.

### PURCHASING ###

Christy masks such as this one are available from some supermarkets (such as Tesco), chains like Boots and independent Chemists throughout the country. They usually cost 99p per sachet but occasionally, *very* occasionally, you can get them on multi-buy offers.

Nice opinion. Im not a big fan of face masks, especially those peel off ones (yeuchhh), but this one sounds very appealing.
