Once that craving has disappeared you've forgotten about wanting a cigarette and carry on doing what you were doing. I have learnt from personal experience that giving up smoking is not difficult at all. In fact, I'd even go to the extent to say that I don't believe that smoking is addictive either. The point where I actually gave up smoking was the point where I just really d...more

Premium Review Smoking Addiction in general: Money to Burn (467 words)

I smoked my first cigarette at the age of 11. Looking back I think it was a mixture of curiosity and "everyone else is doing it so why can't I?" syndrome. I am now 23 and am smoking around 10 a day (not that much too some people but too many for me). I have started having to take my asthma inhaler more than I have ever needed to and this is really quite frightening. About a month ago I decided to give up. I lasted for two weeks (an unmitigated failure). I was fine until I went to a hen night and got drunk, my friend was sitting next to me and smoking a cigarette and I asked if I could pinch one. I thought one would be okay and that I ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review giving up is hard to do. (568 words)

I was a late starter with cigarettes. I was 24 before I really had my first cigarette and it made me cough and choke, as I recall it felt hot down my throat. It wasnt a pleasent experience for me, but I tried it again. and again and again until I could smoke a whole cigarette without choking or wretching. So why did I leave it so late? Well, nearly all my friends smoked and I had resisted the temptation for a very long time. Although one friday night my mates and I where in the local Ale house and the beer was flowing quite nicely and one of my friends offered me a cigarette. Curiosity getting the better of me I accepted and he lit the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Smoking Addiction in general: Smoking - it's hard to give up (437 words)

I had my first fag when I was ten or eleven and thought it was sick and didn’t touch one for another 5 years. With the pressures of school I started again for some reason it gave me a buzz and I couldn’t stop I always used to smoke outside the gates at school thinking it was cool but not knowing the dangers. I'm pretty stupid for even touching a fag again but a couple of years after starting it haven’t helped me one bit. At one point I totally gave up for like 3 months in a row which gave me a big confidence boost to never try it again ever. Well it didn’t happen and I started smoking again costing me allot money. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review A little sympathy BUT get on with it (757 words)

I believe it is now appreciated that many adult smokers are genuine nicotine addicts caused, arguably, by the irresponsibility of the tobacco manufacturers over the years and that us non-smokers should start to be more sympathetic. So to gain our sympathy I suggest the following: Can we now classify nicotine as a controlled drug and help these smokers in the same way as drug addicts and offer them every assistance to kick the habit - to be financed incidentally by windfall taxes on the tobacco manufacturers, not the tax payer. All advertising to be banned and smoking in public places to be banned. Nicotine addicts to register themselves with ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Smoking Addiction in general: Smoking is a Habit. (237 words)

Well we have been going just over a year now with the No Smoking in public places and so many of my friends have given up because of it, I have cut right down but not quite broken the habit as yet but I am working on it. Smoking is an addiction but I have learned in this last year that it is also a habit. I used to go for a coffee and automatically have a couple of cigarettes, or if I was out for a drink I would near on chain smoke. I was so used to doing it and never once asked myself if I really wanted one or not. Now my habit has changed for the better I no longer just reach for the packet and light up without a second thought, I ...  Read the complete review
