Advantages: non
Disadvantages: so bad for my health
Well we have been going just over a year now with the No Smoking in public places and so many of my friends have given up because of it, I have cut right down but not quite broken the habit as yet but I am working on it.
Smoking is an addiction but I have learned in this last year that it is also a habit.
I used to go for a coffee and automatically have a couple of cigarettes, or if I was out for a drink I would near on chain smoke.
I was so used to doing it and never once asked myself if I really wanted one or not.
Now my habit has changed for the better I no longer just reach for the packet and light up without a second thought, I have to think first about where I am and where I can go if I want to smoke.
In the pub in front of a nice log fire, rain and wind outside? I prefer to stay in the warm now and do without the quick smoke.
I think the ban is a good idea, all public places now smell fresher,
non smokers do not have to put up with unwanted smoke and people like me can cut down and eventually stop the addiction by having the habit broken.
Summary: Never thought I would end up being glad about the smoking policy

- 10/08/08 Great to hear from a smoker who sees that the ban is a good thing. |

- 10/08/08 In my experience (40 years ago last week) the way to give up - assuming you want to - is simply to stop smoking. If you don't want to, why bother? It's only your own health and pocket that will suffer, and that's your responsibility. Like the last commenter, I deplore the shrill puritans who are so keen to impose on others what they believe to be good for them. |

- 09/08/08 There are quite a few people out there now who are 'officially' non-smokers but catch them in a private moment and they're puffing away with gusto!
Like so much else these days sensible ideas are hijacked and ruined by shrill fanatics. The 'sin' of smoking is just a current example. Those who can't produce a six-pack stomach on demand will be next! :) |
