I had my first fag when I was ten or eleven and thought it was sick and didn’t touch one for another 5 years. With the pressures of school I started again for some reason it gave me a buzz and I couldn’t stop I always used to smoke outside the gates at school thinking it was cool but not knowing the dangers. I'm pretty stupid for even touching a fag again but a couple of years after starting it haven’t helped me one bit. At one point I totally gave up for like 3 months in a row which gave me a big confidence boost to never try it again ever. Well it didn’t happen and I started smoking again costing me allot money. About a year ago I had my first experience of illegal drugs well soft really I tried cannabis I really liked it and I felt like I was drunk or something. That hasn’t help as I've tried to give up over and over again but just can't. I felt like an Idiot forever starting but I can't stop. So what turned into a stupid thing you would do in your bedroom away from anybody has turned into a habit that I can't control when I get cravings for a cigarette. One thing that has given me a confidence boost in stoping in quite near death experience. It started like this you get a smoker’s cough, which can build up into a throat sour. I went to the doctors to get some medication and I thought it would go and it didn’t in fact I could hard breath it was so bad. So a week later another doctor had told me it was asthma brought on by the smoking he told me I could have died. That frightened me, well anyway I got an inhaler and am trying to give up by these methods that seem to be working. +Smoking six fags a day and dropping a fag every week so next week I'll smoke five(It might work). +Nicotine patches these works on some people but won't help me from giving up. My opinion is that it is very hard to give fro
m the time you start. I suggest that if you are young and reading this you will think twice about picking up a cigarette and smoking it. Many Thanks > Dark Knights

- 08/08/01 Interesting op.
Yes giving up is tricky, but it can be done. I managed to give up over a year ago (after having smoked for 7 years), and I did it without patches and just with determination.
O ne old fave is to put what would be your fag money in a jar and save for something nice. |

Off Topic - Can I ask you to reconsider your malicious 'Not Useful' rating of my most recent opinion (7/8/01). I don't know whether you were miffed because it knocked your opinion off the front page, or if you do not yet understand the Dooyoo rating system.
Here is a reminder:
Very useful: covers every aspect of the subject in considerable depth, and makes both the positive and negative aspects perfectly clear. You would make a purchasing decision based on this opinion.
Useful: a good opinion which states the case clearly but perhaps focuses too much on a single aspect of the topic. You might make a purchasing decision based on this opinion, but you'd look for more information first.
Somewhat useful: an opinion that would have been better with more depth or a more balanced coverage.
Not useful: the opinion is very one-sided and lacks sufficient depth to really do justice to the topic.
Quite how you could rate my opinion as Not Useful is beyond me, unless it was done with a malicious intent, in which case I will have to report you.
