Advantages: Cheaper prices

Disadvantages: Some are awful

I have to admit that I am a brand snob, if it's beans or salad cream; it's got to be Heinz. Weetabix has got to be Weetabix and Cola has got to be Coke.

With the advent of the big supermarket brands, we see a trend towards three different price ranges. All supermarkets now have a basics range in response to the credit crunch. At my local Sainsbury's the basics range previously used to be buried in the store, so you really had to hunt for it, if you really wanted it. Now, as a testament to the Credit Crunch, it sits proudly just inside the main entrance.

There is a middle of the road own brand range, which competes against other more well known brands. Each supermarket also has a top quality Premium "Taste the Best " own brand range, which will be more expensive than most other brands. This range competes against Gourmet brands and M&S.

Here more than anywhere you get what you pay for. So in view of the times we live in, It is always worth trying an economy version of something you would normally use, if you don't like it, you'll only get it once, if you do, you'll cut your shopping bills significantly.

Summary: You get what you pay for!
