Advantages: 8 weeks off work, not having to cook dinner

Disadvantages: painfull, uncomfortable, no sleep

With a sudden 'thud' and a strange dull ache I found myself unable to move my right foot. Unsure of what had happened and after a little bit of investigation I realised that the area where my Achilies Tendon should have been was strangely vacant.

It occured whilst a relatively inocent action of pushing off a step that the injury happened. Twelve hours later in the casualty dept. of the local hospital I was prepared for surgery - nill by mouth and very de-hydrated I was taken to the theatre. "When you wake up you will feel fine" they said! Three hours later, my knee bent at 90 degrees and my right leg up to my groin in plaster, the surgeon smiled at me and said "you are over the worst" - he lied! Eight weeks in plaster, combined with sleepless nights, hours of discomfort and a burden to everyone - I must say a ruptured Achilies was not a pleasant experience.

On the bright side - eight weeks off work, pampered and provided for, hours of TV and reading and sympathetic family and friends.

Finally - credit to the NHS, they were there when I needed them.

Recovery rate excellent - but my wife has left me (only joking!)

Ooh, painful, although I do know how you feel. I ruptured ligaments in my knee and spent 6 weeks in plaster. 3 months of physio later and I did it again!!! Arggghhhhhhhh
