I guess I should start with a warning: what follows is a piece about the basic philosophy of yoga so for those who have no interest in the more 'bookish' aspect of the discipline or in Eastern philosophy generally now might be a good time to turn around. At the very least it might spare you a headache! For anyone left ... . *** For most people who practice yoga, the vast majority perhaps, it is something that is done solely to keep the body toned and the mind settled. It's a useful weapon in the fight against all these modern stresses that play havoc with modern lives. But if a toned body and a calmed mind are all that we are looking for from our ... What do you think of when you think of yoga? Some people may say ‘mumbo jumbo’, others may say ‘spiritual’ I too thought these things before I tried it. Yoga is very commonly mistaken for being for people who are religious, perhaps slightly nutty, and a lot of people may also think that they cannot be bothered to just lie there and ‘relax’. But why is this? Why have we all suddenly turned into a race that cannot just sit there and relax and just let go of all our stress? These days life is about work mainly. If you have read any of my previous reviews, you may be aware that I'm currently trying to shift the last of my baby weight. In my quest for the perfect body (never gonna happen), I've been hitting the gym and trying out a few exercise classes - the latest being Yoga. Having purchased a Yoga video years ago, I had a basic understanding of what Yoga is. The video was Geri Halliwell's which she released when she was stick thin, so I had bought it believing it would also make me that thin. After a couple of months, my scales hadnt moved and I ditched the video as Geri was very annnoying on it. So what is Yoga? It is a practice originating in India over ... Read the complete review

Now I have to point out, I am writing this from a learners perspective, I am not a professional nor aiming to be, and I practice Yoga with others in various classes through out the week. I am not writing this to try to tell you the entire history of Yoga, I am simply trying to tell you about the benefits and experiences I have had and hope that the review I give will be of some use to you. The reasons I initially started Yoga, followed being an inpatient at hospital for 4 months as an anorexic. Having been under careful surveillance, I was only allowed to exercise, mildly for 30 minutes per week, and a 20 minute walk per day. Naturally I left hospital itching ... Read the complete review
