Advantages: seriously none

Disadvantages: circumspect with truth, sharp practice, salesman wear you down

In january my son went to carcrap. I went with him and as soon as we walked in we were acosted by a salesman. They did not have the cars they had advertised but they had plenty of more expensive ones.

My son picked a car and set about buying it. That's when the trouble began!!!!!!

He was bombarded with bits of paper to sign with very little information. I asked 3 times whether the extra's were mandatory - the salesman looked bemused as if he wasn't used to being asked questions. He eventually said they weren't - but by this time it was too late.

After 4hours we went to collect the car - only to be told it wasn't taxed and couldn't be taxed locally because the log book recorded it as a 'motability' car. I had asked this question twice during the sale and not received a clear answer.

When we got home my son and I sat and worked out what he had agrred to and we were HORRIFIED.

The next day he wrote to carcrap cancelling the extra's - eg extended warranty and payment protection plan. We sent it registered mail - we didn't trust carcrap!!!

How right we were.

He then went to his bank and took out a bank loan to pay off the finance at carcrap.

My My talk about opening pandora's box!!!!

The finance was pain off to on-line finance and we thought that was the end of the matter.

UNTIL 3 weeks later when he received a demand from another finance company.

I rang carcrap and my calls were never returned - until I said I was going to stand outside their store and tell prospective customers about their dealings. It still took 15 phone calls before I spoke to a manager who then told me - THEY HAD SPLIT THE FINANCE BETWEEN TWO COMPANIES.

We were totally unaware of this and we are still at a loss as to how it happened - AT NO TIME DID THE SALESMAN MENTION THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN.

The manager tried to say that my son was a
credit
risk and that on-line finance would not fund the whole purchase - this is a lie - online finance were only asked for the amount they granted!!!

But of course carcrap get two commisions if they use two credit companies!!!!

And he is such a risk Barclays's offered him whatever he wanted!!!!

The end to this story is that my son still owes £1182 on a car he thought he had paid for and there is nothing he can do about it.

Oh and to add insult to injury the driver's car door fell off within 24 hours!!!!!
Mind you they did mend it but it's about to go again.
Ah well life is a series of lessons learned and this one has to be

FORGET CARCRAP. AVOID THEM LIKE THE PLAGUE.

AND IF YOU DO CONSIDER GOING TO THEM - GET SOMEONE TO BREAK YOUR LEGS.

Ah simonFinnigan he was told the second agreement was for payment protection NOT split finance of the price of the car,
and perhaps we all have to get bitten once before we become wise.
The review was to help others not get bitten at all.
Thanks for all your comments.

While I feel sorry for you, why did your son sign anything without understanding exactly what it was saying? I`ve been in a similar situation a few times, and if a salesman refuses to give me a good answer to my question then I walk out the door. I have the money to spend, they want the commission, so they have to do what I want.

Next time make sure you and your son understand a financial agreement before signing anything. A lot of companies have very sharp business practices, and you should always be on the look out.
