Advantages: Lasts forever! (if you keep your car that long).
Disadvantages: car must stay listed in catalogue
UNIPART Samson of course!! This is one of the few car batteries on the market that actually offers a 'lifetime guarantee'. I know- we've heard it all before! What Unipart actually say is that as long as you own your car your battery is warranted. Some time ago my UNIPART Samson battery gave up the ghost after some eight years of use, I thought no more of it, never really having faith in manufacturer's warranties anyway. Then it dawned on me that I should make a claim! Rather than dispose of the thing, I thought, I met every condition on the warranty card. I had owned my TR7 for what is now twelve years and don't see myself parting with the car!! I took the battery back gingerly to my local Rover Unipart stockist for them to validate my claim (Eleven years had passed now since it's purchase). I expected at best, say a 40% discount off the cost of a new one?? No way! Two days later my claim was validated. I received a call from the dealer explaining that my brand new UNIPART SAMSON battery was 'ready for collection, sir'!!! They are not cheap nowadays, but they sure are an investment if you plan on keeping that car! My new Samson has likewise been promptly registered with its new 'lifetime guarantee'. I hope this one lasts as long as the first. Top marks to Unipart on a superb product, and excellent warranty care!! As vehicle technology continues to develop, new demands are being made on batteries and in response, Unipart is apparently now launching a calcium-calcium battery portfolio, supposedly the most technically advanced batteries on the market. With the temperature under a vehicle's bonnet now reaching in excess of 100°C, the effectiveness of a battery can deteriorate rapidly. The introduction of these advanced batteries, offers improved corrosion resistance ensuring the battery's quality is consistent despite high temperatures. With its unlimited guarantee it r
emains the only battery in the market to offer consumers an exclusive promise 'You'll need a new car before you buy a new battery.' In addition, to monitor effectiveness a 'Magic Eye' indicator, which changes colour to demonstrate whether the condition of the battery if flat or fully charged, is now positioned on every Samson Premium Battery. The advanced technology premium batteries are supported by a new easy-to-read catalogue, providing technical details, specification information and full cross-referencing. They cost a bit more, but they are certainly worth it if you own a classic car, say, or intend to hold on to your vehicle- but just one snag- it still has to be listed in their catalogue to qualify for a replacement!

- 26/01/01 Very true, and of particular value to the 'classic car' enthusiast maybe?
I have 'heard' that Kwick fit offer lifetime warranty on their brake components and I intend to check this out as well! |

- 26/01/01 The moral from this story is to own cars for a long time, so that you can fit good quality parts and then benefit from lifetime warranties. |
