Advantages: Incredible realism
Disadvantages: Limited features, (wish they were all like this)- on second thoughts, no I don't!
At last in the U.K we now have the opportunity to experience IMAX. It sure took its time getting here. I believe it’s been around in the States for years! In London its taken support from the National lottery, through the Arts Council of England to build the London IMAX Cinema, situated on the South bank of the Thames not far from the London eye. IMAX is quite simply state of the art Cinema quality regarding sight and sound, with a really large screen. I was eager to experience such a phenomenon! I’ve seen 3d films before; they are pretty good with the polarised glasses but here was the opportunity to see IMAX 3d! The feature for me was ‘Encounter in the third dimension’- basically a purpose produced demo movie packed full of 3d effects. First job was to polish the ‘grubby’ supplied glasses with an old serviette I found in my pocket (you’d think they’d clean these for you before they lend them to you, - no such luck)! There were finger marks all over the lenses. As the film begins it is hard to accept the fact that your mind is being fooled. It really is so realistic and large that it seems like a ‘live’ show with a stage twelve inches in front of you! The visual quality is indeed stunning and the sound is amazing! As for the 3d, you really do blink and move away from ‘approaching’ objects- incredible! There’s no doubt that if you are any kind of Cinema fan, you HAVE to experience IMAX- do it now!
