My Experience of Learning a Musical Instrument: ... December the 4th 2006 (my 44th birthday) I went into a local music shop and said to the guy behind the counter "I want to learn to play an instrument, I don t know what". Some background: I have been obsessed by music since I was a child, I used to hide under the covers with a torch on Sunday nights listening to radio Luxembourg and writing down the movers in their chart in old exercise books. I hav...

joe-91 Censorship In Music : Should acts like Eminem and Marilyn Manson be Censored?
... is it that things such as half a cow preserved in thamaldohide be classified as "art" but when something has naughty language people are offended and decide it should be banned? Censorship helps no one. It numbs the brain of thousands of people everyday. Nothing and no one is 100% happy and good, so why should television and music be forced to portray life as that? Violence, drugs, sex, swearing and other things that result in censorship are going to be experienced by everyone one day so why pretend the problems don t exist? Not everyone will experience drugs in the same way as not everyone will experience violence but they are still there, in the news and ...

joe-91 Hip Hop in general
... I don t look like the typical hip hop fan, with my long black hair, stretched piercings and metal band T-Shirts, I do listen to it pretty often. But I find their is a problem with most kids listening to it. There are some, but not all, fans that just go with what s popular. They fail to recognise that, what in my opinion, is true hip hop isn t about shooting and drugs but unity and dealing with issues, the same as most genres. I used to buy a great magazine called Hip-Hop connection. It had loads of MCs who were making great music but were going un-noticed by most kids. This problem also occurs in the metal scene but not as much. There is a lot of great music out...

... another of my shoegazing favourites, and a band who are said to have gained musical inspiration from the Cocteau Twins. From the first listen I was destined to like this band, and now Id like to share with you the magic of their dreamy music. -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*- Formed in 1989, in Reading, Slowdive adopted a style akin to their predecessors, shoegazing artists the Cocteau Twins and My Bloody Valentine. The bands figureheads were Neil Halstead (guitars and vocals), a hugely talented musician with a mellow and distinctive voice, and Rachel Goswell (guitar and vocals) a slightly grungy bob-haired girl. Goswell had the ki...
