Morbid Fascinations (2Pac in general)
Member Name: Sugar Matty O
Advantages: Reminds you what a violent place the hip hop industry is Disadvantages: Just let it rest
What is the globe's morbid fascination with Tupac Shakur? Far from being an icon/hip hop superpower who everyone could relate to, is everyone under the impression that because we should respect his memory we should also go out and buy the talentless crap that record companies continue to shove down our throat for memories sake? Tupac should take his place in hip hop folklore - fact. But it should also be remembered that for all the great records he made, he also produced a whole load of garbage at the same time. Should we honour at all someone who was a law unto himself and brought about his own demise with incendiary lyrics that were ultimately ill-advised in their potency? Let 2pac rest. He was a rapper who got killed in his prime. He hasn't been the only one though, so why bow down to his engima? Because he was provocative? Talented? Went from rags to riches? Or because he was a misunderstood genius? If his posthumous recordings are genius, I hate to think what some of his crap stuff was really like... Summary: |
