On September 7 1996, Tupac Amaru Shakur was shot whilst riding in a car in Las Vegas. he died in hospital six days later at the age of 25. The son of a Black Panther political activist, in his short life Tupac was both a rapper and an actor, appearing in five feature films. It was not the first time he had been shot. In November 1994 he was shot five times in an attempted robbery. As with his death, this shooting was surrounded by conspiracy theories featuring a number of high profile figures from the world of rap music.
Tupac's first film was Juice in 1992. He played one of the main characters, a violence obsessed boy growing up in 'the hood.' He also appeared in Poetic Justice, as Janet Jackson's love interest, Above The Rim, Bullet, Gridlock'd and Gang Related.
However, it was as a rapper that Tupac really excelled. His work was very varied but always brilliant, ranging from gangster rap songs and slurs, such as 'Hit 'em Up,' to slower raps such as 'Unconditional Love.' His work often had meaning and gave people a better understanding of what people living a childhood such as his faced in everyday life. One example of this is 'Brenda's Got A Baby,' about a twelve year old girl made pregnant by her cousin and then abandoned by her family. She turns to prostitution and is murdered. Tupac glorified a gang related life one minute and then did a song like 'Changes' about the bad side of the life. He seemed to realise that the lifestyle was bad and led nowhere but, for teenagers who were not given the break he got, was inescapable.
His 1995 album 'Me Against the World' sold 2million copies and 'All Eyez on Me' sold nearly 3million.

I would recommend that everybody gives 2Pac's music a try. Even if you do not like rap, I think you'll be pleasantly suprised and find something you like.
