Just over a week to go for the wedding and what did we need to do? Travel 7 hours to Manchester to the A-ha Foot of the Mountain concert! My partner James is a huge fan and in the middle of the year when the concerts were advertised we decided that it would give us a mini break from wedding stuff. Was it a good idea? The drive there......No. The concert........ yes yes yes!!! And here's why: We arrived in Manchester unfortunately in rush hour and spent over an hour in traffic so arrived at the hotel at 6pm. The concert was at 7.30pm and we didn't even know where we were meant to go. The concert was at the MEN Arena in Manchester. ... Read the complete review

Firstly I should say that this is an op of an a-ha album called 'Memorial Beach' and so not really a general op about the band. I wrote it before I realised that Memorial Beach wasn't on here in its own right and I didn't want to lose it while I waited it for it to be posted!!! Memorial Beach (1993, Warner Brothers) is one of the later and less well-known albums from a-ha. It demonstrates a move away from the popular pop classics such as 'Take on me' and 'The sun always shines on tv' but still displays a distinctive a-ha sound. The fantastic vocals of Morten Harket remain the focus of most tracks but there is also a great ... Read the complete review

Well A-ha may not be the most fashionable group to admit to being a fan of, but way back in the mid-late '80s I was a massive fan of the Norwegian crooners. They were brought together in rather strange circumstances, Warner Brothers were looking for talent (I know the feeling!) from Scandinavia at the trio formed a group in the hope of winning a talent contest to get a recording deal. They won the contest and became one of the most succesful groups around at the time. Morten Harket, vocals, is the driving force behind the group and he has the voice of an angel. Unfortunatley some of the lyrics he writes are not of this Earth either, for example, ... Read the complete review

How dare a new band rip off the classic "Take on Me" by the classic eighties band A-ha! The current number one in the charts - I bet "A-ha" are thinking, "A-ha! Why didn't we simply re-release this record, rather than give the rights to someone else. As well as this classic song, A-ha were responsible for some great catchy tunes, many about Whales, for some strange reason. "The Sun always shines on TV" is my personal fave, but I'm sure we all have our favourites. If you want to get back to the eighties, buy the CD, or borrow it from the local library - they're bound to have a copy! ... Read the complete review
