Advantages: Great energy, great live, awesome rock band!B

Disadvantages: Some say their material sounds the same, but not a disadvantage

Nearly 9 years since a review...time for a little update I think.

AC/DC are by far Australia's greatest ever rock band, and in my opinion the best thing ever to come out of Australia! They were formed in Syndey by the now infamous brothers Angus and Malcom Young, over 35 years ago way back in 1973.

There are two main eras to ACDC's history. The first era lasted from 1974 until 1980 and comprised of lead singer Bon Scott, with Angus and Malcom Young, on lead and rhythm guitar respectively, with Phil Rudd filling the drums slot. Initially Mark Evans was the bassist, until his departure in 1977 when he was replaced by Cliff Williams. This lineup recorded seven albums over a six year period, with their greatest album being Highway To Hell released in 1979. Unfortunately this would be Bon Scott's last album, as he died after a night of heavy drinking in 1980.

This signalled the second area in ACDC's history. Bon Scott's voice was incredibly unique, and to an extent he was irreplacable. Fortunately, ACDC replaced him with perhaps the greatest successor their fans could ever wish for. Brian Johnson was installed as the least singer, and the first album he appeared on, Back In Black went on to be their greatest album ever, selling over 45 million copies worldwide, 22 million alone in the United States. The lineup remains the same to this day as of 1980, with brief interludes by Simon Wright and Chris Slade on drums from 1983-1989, and 1989-1994 respectively.

Their most recent album, Black Ice released last October proves that the band still rock and having purchased the album I rank it highly amongst my collection.

I have loved ACDC ever since I was young. I've always found their music energetic and fun loving, always picking me up and rejuvinating my mood whatever it may be. Their well known riffs are loved my hundreds of millions of fans worldwide. Unfortunately, like many legends that have graced the world stage, ACDC are a dying breed but as their recent album and tour prove, they are showing no signs of slowing down of giving up just yet.

Of the 2 eras I have stated above, I can't really distinghuish which one I prefer. I am a great admirer of Bon Scott, and class his voice as unique and great, up with the likes of Steven Tyler. I can't really say I'm a fan of a change of lead singer in bands usually, but I have to say ACDC made a great decision in appointing former Geordie singer Brian Johnson as their frontman, which gave a bit of a British element to this great band from down under. Brian Johnson has been around a lot longer than Bon Scott, but I class them both as legends as do so many people around the world.

One complaint people tend to have with ACDC, especially my friends is that their songs tend to sound the same and lack variety. I personally disagree with this, though I can see where they're coming from. I'd say you'd have to be a true fan and have to have a lot of ACDC material to appreciate the variety in their work.

I hope to hear even more of ACDC in the near future. There is no confirmation of a successor to Black Ice, but I doubt we've heard the last of the Australian rock band.

I would highly recommend any ACDC album to someone who enjoys energetic and some meaningless songs that just involve fun rather than meaning!

Summary: Buy their albums! Go see them live wherever you can!
