In time we each played every piano, and worked systematically through a system of elimination. Eventually we had it down to two- the Yamaha U1 and the Euterpe. In the end one daughter and I played the same concerto swopping pianos after a page or two.We eliminated the Yamaha after a GREAT deal of playing! Then we realised that the two Euterpe's which they had in stock had a slightly different sound. Off w...more

I have updated this opinion to add one or two things which I hope will be useful! The Bechstein Euterpe is the business! I am a professional accompanist and piano teacher, and therefore not easy to please! Earlier this year it was necessary for me to replace my piano. It isn't often you get to buy a brand new piano and the whole family threw themselves into the task with great enthusiasm. I looked at many dealers and types of piano. I began to feel like I had been to the perfume counter- so many smells that you couldn't tell the difference anymore! My piano tuner etc.then recommended a day to Wales, as Coach House pianos is ...  Read the complete review

Until recently I owned a Yamaha baby grand, which sadly had to be sold when we moved house. It was one of the best pianos I have had the chance to play, and had a beautiful tone, despite being placed in one of the worst rooms in the house (i.e. near the boiler!) I have played numerous other pianos over the years, usually Steinways and the occasional Globe, but this, as was said in previous reviews, was the best practice piano I have played. The keys are a slightly heavier than other types of piano, and require a bit of weight to be placed on them in order to get a good sound. I like this, however, as I like to feel I am really physically *creating* the sound, as ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Acoustic & Digital acoustic Pianos in general: Scare the next door neighbours! (232 words)

To really exploit this piano', you have to raise the lid to the full extent. Just try it with the lid down. The sound is a bit dull at first but when you lift the lid up, the sound is so much brighter and you realise why you paid so much for the piano'. The keys are not too heavy, nor too light - a perfect practice piano'. You won't want to perform on this piano' though as if you have any tension, it is so easy to hit a wrong note with the force you have to apply. If you are looking for a performance piano', go for one with lighter keys. The sharps/flats are just that bit lighter and it really shows when you are doing a chromatic scale. The ...  Read the complete review

Yamahammers (135 words)

Pianos all have their own feel, and players all have their own favourites. The Yamaha uprights that I've played are all visually pleasing. But I find that they lack weight, which is fine if you're staying on that instrument, but if you practice on a yamaha, for example, but perform on a Welmar, you'll find that you're not used to the weight of the keys. I also find Yamahas quite loud, which again, is good for some players, but not for others. Chopin just doesn't work on a Yamaha, but it's just the job for Burgmuller. They are strong pianos, and hardwearing if you play a lot. Not my cup of tea, but good ...  Read the complete review
