Advantages: Excellent practice tone.....

Disadvantages: .....unless you're performing

To really exploit this piano', you have to raise the lid to the full extent. Just try it with the lid down. The sound is a bit dull at first but when you lift the lid up, the sound is so much brighter and you realise why you paid so much for the piano'. The keys are not too heavy, nor too light - a perfect practice piano'. You won't want to perform on this piano' though as if you have any tension, it is so easy to hit a wrong note with the force you have to apply. If you are looking for a performance piano', go for one with lighter keys. The sharps/flats are just that bit lighter and it really shows when you are doing a chromatic scale. The pedals do need a lot of use before you can make any easy use of them and this piano' comes with 3 pedals, the extra middle pedal for sustaining selected notes.
The extras that come with the piano' are very useful. There is a red cloth that covers the entire length of the keyboard to protect it from dust (even with the lid down!). Also, there are all the polishing liquids and cloths to last you at least 8 years (still got quite a bit left).
Generally a well built instrument with the right acoustics and no unwanted vibrations.

Spot on review. I've played on a number of Yamaha grands which were the standard practise piano in my university department, and they make for superb practise pianos. Currently I have one in the music department where I teach, and it is a little quirky. Its action is extremely heavy, making many types of music impossible. But this is the only one I have ever had a gripe with, and its sound is still superb.
