Adam and the Ants were formed in 1977. They were initially a punk group who were influenced by the Sex Pistols. They wore bondage gear and gave a sado masochist image. This first generation of the Ants bought out one album "Dick Wears White Sax". But by the end of the decade they took advice from The Sex Pistols, managar Malcolm McLaren, he advised them to change there music and image. But by 1980 they abandoned Adam Ant, and formed a band named Bow Wow Wow. But with a new set of band members Adam Ant, reinvented himself with a new sound influenced by the Burundi Black Drummers. The early 1980's started off slow for music in general. The Punk scene was becoming tired and the newest bands were just starting to make a difference, with such bands as Duran Duran, The Police and Madness just starting to emerge as being the finest sounds around...... And then a new group burst onto the scene, full of enthusiasm and rather more drums than we had ever experienced before, there was this group with a lead singer with a massive white stripe across his nose and wearing strange clothes from what looks like a soldiers uniform sometime in the 1800's!
