The second time i saw Amen was at this years Ozzfest. The atmosphere was different to the more intimate surroundings of the tent at Leeds but Amen still put on a quality performance despite frontman Caseys throat problems In all honesty i was just a little too short to appreciate Amen visually, with just occasiona... more

Having seen Amen twice now, both at festivals, they have not yet lost theire edge for me. The first time i saw them was last summer at the Leeds festival( bitterness over having to travel the length of the country due to Reading being sold out was by that point starting to fade!). They were amazing, electricity on stage spreading throughout the crowd(who were packed in and overflowing out of the small tent!) I was genuinely delighted to meet members of the band after their performance.Sonny Mayo remains one of the most friendly, polite rock stars i have ever met. I was very fortunate to get on the guest-list for the NME Carling Awards gig at DeMontfort Uni's (Leics) Student Union. Already a huge fan of JJ72 I knew I'd enjoy at least one of the four acts. As the hours crawled slowly by I started to doubt whether it would actually exceed one (JJ72 were last on). Boring, senseless drivel gushed from the mouths and instruments of the mediocre "new Coldplay" types, Starsailor and Alfie... but then (after the lead singer of Alfie had failed to destroy a drumkit) Casey Chaos of AMEN threw himself onto the stage with such enthusiasm I actually chose to pay attention for the first time that evening. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Amen - Live: Amen - A Great Alternative to Nu-Metal!!! (439 words)

You know every Saturday Night, when it’s half an hour to the lottery, and you get that feeling. The one that shouts “It Could Be You”, then you rattle off a list of how you’d spend it to the person next to you. I had virtually the same feeling last night and I wasn’t going to let the fact that I had no ticket get in the way of me seeing the first date of Amen’s first British tour. Despite the fact that they could have sold out a venue twice the size, they decide to play the tiny, but legendary Manchester Hop & Grape as the first date. Recently host to top rock acts such as Kittie and My Ruin, the gig that sticks in my mind was ...  Read the complete review

At the NME Carling awards tour 2001 gig (see my opinion ‘Indie, Northern Soul and Metal’) held in Sheffield Students union, I came across a band that gave me a surprise. The band's name was Amen, and the music can only be described as Punk Metal. Along with them was JJ72 (see my opinion ‘NME didn’t get JJ72’s best’), Alfie and Starsailor. These other bands didn’t live up to there potential, so I was glad when I heard this band play. I don’t get to see many famous metal bands- I usually get to see two bit local bands, so I was really looking forward to hearing them. My knowledge of the band was small- I’d ...  Read the complete review

Amen - Live: Superb! (603 words)

I went to go and see Amen live at the start of December last year, it was in a small venue on Oxford road in Manchester, and man it went off. Amen are a metal band, they are destined for big things having recently been signed by Virgin Records who produced their latest album 'We have come for your parents'. This is an amazing album, (review to follow) you can really see how much effort has gone into it by the band, and the new producer, the renowned Ross Davidson. But Virgin records have not and will not ever change Amen, even if they wanted to, this was proved by the gig. In there early days Nirvana used to smash up there ...  Read the complete review
