As Ani's career progresses (still heavy on the touring, with well over 100 days each year devoted to the road), we notice that she is progressing as well. She incorporates spoken word between tracks to create an eerie, moody setting for the next song. She lets more of her funk, blues, jazz, classic rock, and even country-western influences show in later recordi ...more

Premium Review Ani Difranco in general: A Righteous Babe Indeed! (950 words)
by DiFranco01 - written on 25.11.01 (Very useful, 40 readings)
Rating:

In 1990, folk musician Ani DiFranco borrowed money from her New York friends and launched Righteous Babe records - an independent label designed for musicians such as herself, songwriters and performers who did not want to get sucked into the giant corporate world of the music industry. Since then, the Buffalo-based record label has seen a bit of growth, and much success: Ani herself has released close to twenty full-length albums, and has signed other promising acts such as Utah Philips, B*tch and Animal, and even Sara Lee (former Ani DiFranco bassist). So f*** you, and you're untouchable face, and f*** you for existing in the first place, who am I that I should be vying for your touch, who am I? Bet you can't even tell me that much..." all I could think of was "where can I get my hands on a copy of this ...

Premium Review Ani Difranco in general: ......Not a Pretty Girl (436 words)
by kymmy21 - written on 30.07.01 (Very useful, 33 readings)
Rating:

Ani Difranco is one of the most talented and inspirational artists on the folk music scene and her popularity has only increased over the span of her twenty year career. She has gone from a girl who sang in local bars and coffeehouses and produced and sold her own cassettes, to someone who is widely recognized, respected and sought after in the music community. She was born in Buffalo, New York in 1970 and through her family was introduced to the world of music at an early age. Inspired by her first-hand experiences with many working musicians she had met whilst they stayed with her family on 'their way through', Ani journeyed into the world of live ...
