... entertained, and it was the performer on stage who took the honours. Not now it seems. It isn’t enough anymore just to go to gigs and enjoy ourselves. Letting the band be the centre of attention is no longer an option. We haven’t paid for tickets just to see a band. It seems we now buy tickets to see a band whose stage we want to share; we’ve got to be in their limelight too. And how do we do this? The whoop, that’s how. And it irritates the hell out of me. I recently went to see Ben Harper play, and whenever he talked...more

Premium Review Are Pop Concerts A Rip-Off?: Smaller shows are better value for money. (527 words)

£85 for a singer is way more than I could every imagine paying for any single gig. It would cost you that for a weekend at one of the summers fests where you could choose from dozens of the best bands around. I suppose atleast Madonna is (I would hope) singing live. How people can shell out loads of money for lip syncing 'bands' is beyond me. It is just dancers mouthing to the same album you have at home. The best thing I ever discovered in relation to concerts is the joy of the small shows. I grew up in the States near a large city and pretty much every gig I went to was a huge stadium tour. They were fun and costly but I didn't know ...

I have been to see many of my favorite bands in concert, Slash's Snakepit, Green Day, The Offspring, Ben Folds Five. The venues ranged from small rock clubs, to medium-sized concert halls, to large stadium-sized events. I love going to these gigs, the emotions, the power, the inspiration of the music to me is great - And I do think it is worth a fair bit of money. You can get priceless experiences from gigs - The pounding of the bass line opening your favorite song, 500 people going wild, the adrenaline rush - Something I'll never forget... So what makes the perfect show? The venue size is important. The shows that I have found the best to be at are ...

Are pop concerts a rip off? Well I suppose a lot depends on whom you are going to see, who in your eyes make popular music. Myself I am into punk rock (this is not a dig at what I see a awful music), a lot of this is not deemed as pop music, thank god. All of the gigs that I have been to have been very reasonably priced and I have got my moneys worth. The most that I have paid for a one off gig was £17.50 (the Deconstruction Tour 2001), but when you find out what I got for the money it is very reasonable indeed. The gig started at 2pm near enough and finished around 11:30pm that is over 9 hours of music for £17.50 (around 10 bands playing). The only thing ...
