... nu-clear sounds. I wasn't as impressed with nu-clear sounds as I had been with 1977 and it hasn't really had much play in my stereo. They disapeered for a while and have returned recently with some exceelent tracks like burn baby burn etc. I swa them recently singing live on some t.v show and it made me cringe! Why does Tim Wheeler insist on singing so badly live. I must admit i've lost a lot of respect for him recently as he just can't sing live, is it the non availabilty of speakers at the front of...more

Premium Review Ash in general: Northern Ireland's finest (743 words)
by - written on 14/12/00 (Very useful, 46 readings)
Rating:

Ash are one of the finest bands to come out of Northern Ireland, ever! Origianlly formed as a thre-piece way back in 1995 or something, they expanded to a four piece in 1997 because three people didn't give a good enough sound live. The line-up of Tim Wheeler on guitars and vocals, Mark Hamilton on bass, Charlotte Hatherly on guitar and backing vocals, and Rick McMurray on drums. Writing is mainly Tim's job, with a few contributions from the others. Ash swing between two posts musically - there is the very poppy side, demonstrated by 1977 album, and the darker, more heavy intense tracks, more like current album Nu-Clear Sounds. Both are excellent but in ...  Read the complete review

I first heard of Ash when they released their album 1977. I bought it as it was only £4.99 on tape and I played it to death. They had loads of catchy songs which i could bop my head to whcih is the kind of music I like! I was lucky enough to see them play at my freshers ball at Swansea University in September 1998. They played a blinding cover of does you mother know by Abba, which i thought was excellent!!! I was quite impressed by their live show and bought nu-clear sounds. I wasn't as impressed with nu-clear sounds as I had been with 1977 and it hasn't really had much play in my stereo. They disapeered for a while and have returned ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Ash in general: stick Ashish in my pipe any day (261 words)

Ash severly Rock. Tim Wheeler is the bees Knees. Earthly respect for Charlotte Hatherly too! They are thee most underated yet talented band to emerge from the mid 1990s. They have three brill abums to date plus 'Trailer'. I cannot name a single song that does not do them justice. Their albums keep improving, their talent, raw and energetic goes from strength to strength. Each album contains a memorable set of songs. The great 'Oh yeah' on the debut '1977' which the boys wrote whilst they were still at 6th form is an achievement, the song is one to chant to and never tires me out. 'Nu clear sounds', their ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Super Band Who Influence My Music (214 words)

I have a small Rock/Pop band called Wipeout Kids and Ash have really influenced me over the years. You've got excellent Tim Wheeler with lead vocals and guitar, Mark Hamilton on the bass guitar, Rick McMurray on the drums and Charlotte Haterly also with guitar and vocals. Their latest album Free All Angels is another example of just how brilliant they are. They've got a mixture of pop and rock songs to please anyone. There's strong rock with the likes of "World Domination" and super pop with songs like "There's A Star". I recommend this album to anyone who is considering buying it. Number 1 in it's first week and near ...  Read the complete review
