Advantages: Unique, Great sense of humour, Great video!!

Disadvantages: None that I can think of!

I must admit that a few weeks ago I couldn't have told you who the Avalanches were, however I've become a bit of a fan recently.

Recently, you can't fail to have heard their track- 'Frontier Psychiatrist'- although you may know it as; 'That Boy Needs Therapy'. I first saw it on PLAY UK- and it was the video that got my attention- perhaps the best video of the year so far, if not this decade ( :-) ). It's simply mad- with a man who's a tortoise, a rapping psychiatrist, a giant bird, a monkey, talking false teeth, a coconut- the list goes on!
Anyway- having loved the video I listened to the track a few more times, and that's also quite different to anything else! The lyrics are witty samples, there are orchestral samples- and I can't say much else other than that it's great! However, as well as being technically clever, and witty- the tracks also really catchy- and you'll want to listen to it again and again.

You can't judge them on one track, however- I thought. The next track I heard was 'Since I Left You'- the title of their album as well. This is another great track- although- very different to 'Frontier P.'. I've also now head a couple of other tracks off their album as well- which are equally great and varied.

Therefore- my next job will be to buy the album! I'll update this comment with anything else that crosses my mind!

Who are they?

According to bol.com (because I really had no idea!):
"The Avalanches are a six-strong collective of DJs, producers and musicians from Melbourne who've made a debut album that rivals DJ Shadow for sampling intricacy, Fatboy Slim for mad-for-it big beat, Air for stoned soul reveries and The Beastie Boys for extreme stoopidity."

I would recommend them to anyone who like any form of Indie or dance music- or anyone with a sense of humour!

Comments please!
