Badly Drawn Boy first came to wide public attention when his album 'The Hour of the Bewildebeest' won the Mercury Music Award and the single from that album, 'Once More Around the Block', was used on just about every TV programme at the time. Damon Gough, the man who is BDB, must have almost suffocated under the avalanche of praise that deservedly was heaped upon him. Next came the soundtrack to 'About a Boy', and this month saw the release of his latest album, 'Have You Fed the Fish?' The title alone (and that of the first album) should tell you that a unique and slightly quirky (I HATE that word) mind is at work behind the ... Read the complete review

This opinion may offend some people because it isn't an informative track by track review of the album, but after watching Badly Drawn Boy's performance on "Later" I felt I had to say something. Despite the critical acclaim he has received (praised in some quarters as "the British Beck" and culminating in his album winning the Mercury Music Prize), I think he is a terrible artist. The 1st track he performed on "Later" (I think it was the recent single with the video that featured him carrying people on his back round the streets of NY) reminded me strongly of a school or 4th division pub band of c1975 struggling ... I first heard Badly Drawn Boy on the radio, and I really didn't like it much, but recently I have heard more and more, and it really has grown on me. I'm wasn't really into the 'indie' side of music either, as I prefer bands such as The Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead and Green day. Anyway, now Coldplay, the Doves and Badly Drawn Boy have arrived in my ears I am enjoying it a lot more. I haven't heard all of the album, and I haven't seen them perform live, but my favourite songs by them at the moment would have to be 'Once around the block', and 'Disillusion', which both have funny videos. One video is of the man ... Read the complete review

Okay guys we gotta work fast - here's all we know about the Badly Drawn Boy... One, his real name is Damon Gough and he's from Manchester. Two - he's a huge Bruce Springsteen fan but don't hold that against him. He wears a tea cosy as a hat which you can hold against him. It's his 'trademark' like that Jay Kay feller, except not the same, whatever, it's an annoying affectation. Five, his early singles are worth a fortune and very hard to find but I downloaded an album, I think it's Japanese, called 'It came from the Ground' with them all on. It's eclectic and frequently meanders, lost between styles, but the ... Read the complete review

Yes he can play I was very impressed with Damon Gough -- Badly drawn boy, at Glastonbury festival. He had a solo performance playing keyboard and acoustic guitar. Beautiful Sunday afternoon at about 4 10pm I was in front of the Pyramid stage where many a big name band has played exciting and vibrant music. I was sitting on the grass talking to my husband, watching the colourful crowd all around me. I was thinking it must be the year of the hat a good proportion of the crowd were wearing one .I looked up at the stage and noticed a scruffy young man in a hat come on he was very cautious a little nervous The audience who are lazing on the ...
